This is true, very true. However, I've heard several complaints that when using a router, the transfer rates are far too slow, or that it scrambles the internet; that's the only reason I'm using a PC to Xbox connection.
And yeah, I've heard of the mods where starting your xbox with the eject button will turn off the soft-mod, and turning it on with the power button will turn on the soft-mod; but I've never been able to find a working one...

i actually found a tutorial on how to make it live compatible here which says you can actually make xbox live gamer tags also, when i did it i had to have the gamer tag saved onto the hd or swap it from another xbox

Yes, it can be live compatible. But, if you don't have a live account, that does you no good. As for getting on it, you need to hook it up into a router, then you may need to unblock some ports. You need to make sure it has the right cables and everything.
It was much easier setting my xbox up to XBC then it was XBL. However, I wish to set it up so that I could connect with Xia Link, but for some reason, when I run the program on my computer, it loads the splash screen, but doesn't progress. I've asked many people, and have gotten no response, so I just gave up.
Besides, even to get the new maps, it cost $4 in addition to the xbox live account!

XBC is also known as Xbox Connect. It's basically like Xbox Live, but it's free.
I guess if you have an XBL account and $4, then why'd you ask me?

XBConnect is awesome although i prefer XLink Kai which can be used with Xbox Media Center which is nice.

Yeah, I still have yet to get Xlink Kia to connect with my xbox. It's not as easy as XBC. I just now got it to work on my PC (I had to re-install it).

i do remember it took me some time to do because i had a wireless adapter on my computer which didnt work but i got it all figured out. but one thing i can say is i dont think the skill level on kai or xbconnect is anywhere near xbox live.

Well yeah, what do you expect...Xbox Live has been around longer and contains more losers that are willing to pay a monthly fee just to play a game against others...
I actually found an Xbox Live 1-Month Trail Code Key-Generator. However, I won't talk about that, I think it might be against the rules ;-)
