I have been reading people's help and advice over the past few days on burning an xbox 360 image. I myself have been having problems and i cannot manage to sucessfully burn an image.

The image is a backup in the format of a .dvd and a .iso file. When examining the .iso file it is structured like a dvd.

I have tried to burn the image using instructions on Clone CD, by burning the .dvd file and I have tried to use DVD Decrypter and IMGBURN, all have ended up in errors and I am getting coasters.

In IMGBURN and DVD Decrypter, it is having write errors at sector 17..... about 40% through and it cannot write and you have to cancel.

In Clone CD it just popups up as failed, here is an extract from the log

"I 02:18:57 CloneCD Version 5.2.9.1 started!
I 02:18:57 ElbyCDIO Driver 6.0.0.0
I 02:18:57 ElbyCDIO.dll 6.0.3.1
I 02:18:57 CCDDriver.dll 5.0.0.1
I 02:18:57 ElbyECC.dll 4.0.0.0
I 02:18:57 WriteDVD.dll 2.6.0.1
I 02:18:57 Registered to: Philipp Schurr
I 02:18:57 Searching for SCSI/ATAPI devices...
I 02:18:57 Device Scan found 1 CD-ROMs and 1 CD-Writers!
I 02:21:14 Starting copy from C:\images\nig-r6vegas.dvd to SONY DVD RW DRU-820A
I 02:21:14 Write Speed: 2x
I 02:21:14 Writing Session 1 LeadIn...
I 02:22:19 Writing Session 1 image file...
I 02:36:39 Duration of operation: 00:15:24
I 02:36:39 Average Speed: 2995 kBytes/s (2.22)
E 02:36:41 Writing to SONY DVD RW DRU-820A failed!"

as you can see I have a SONY DVDRW DRU-820A writer, I have tried a few different types of media, verbatim included and I have wrote these at the lowest possible speeds of 2.4x and my DVD has the very latest firmware.

I do not know what the problem is and why it keeps erroring.

Please help as I have read lots of information on this but I have not been able to find anything specific on the type of errors I am having with the backup images that do not need patching and with the error at 40% rather than 50~ which may explain layer problems....

Anyway, if anybody knows anything about this issue or is more technically minded, your help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Open DVD Decrypter. Set the booktype for LG drives to DVD-ROM and burn again at 4x with CloneCD. Select the .dvd file
Also use Verbatim DVD+R DL

When I click the LG tab it lets me click the drop down box and gives me 2 options, Drive (for DVD+R DL MEDIA) and Drive (for DVD+R Media), however the current setting says unknown FAILED! and the new setting box is greyed out....??

Any ideas?

Ok then, get DVDInfoPro and you need to set the booktyping of DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM

put an @ between the h and b

then I clicked set as default after clicking the DVD ROM radio button and i got this screen

http://uk.geocities.com/scott_hbtinternet.com/2.JPG

after clicking yes, it still had no effect and it still got stuck at exactly the same place 44%

I'm really stuck for ideas, i don't know if i did this right or not but if you have any more info it would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry, I screwed up. You can use DVD Decrypter, but select BENQ as your burner. My bad man, I have the DRU-810a.

No problem.
However, i changed the booktype but it gave a write error at 42% again.

Any other ideas my friend?

Have you tried 4x? And are you sure the image is a real image? It could be corrupted. Also, could be your burner going bad... I know Verbatim DVD+R DL are expensive but 4x is worth a shot. If it still fails, you can always reformat and install windows again. Then if it STILL fails, I say get a new burner or someone you can just buy the games from.

Check the .dvd file and post what it says
Open .dvd file with notepad. Someone could have the layerbreak wrong...

Funny you should say that....

I have been writing at 4x and I have used several images, and they all error in the same place.
My computer is brand new, i built it myself and installed windows about a week ago. My writer is also new, i bought it the other week.

It crossed my mind that it was my burner, but its brand new and is supposed to support the methods needed.

Really lost with this one, I havn't got a clue what the problem is.

Well that's right. Like I said, have you tried at 4x or got a different copy of that particular game? I think that's the same one I obtained and it worked for me... at 4x.

Oops, just saw you wrote at 4x...
Damn man, I'd say re-download a different version of Splinter Cell.

Damn another Edit - Try this... Take out the IDE cable to the other drive that the Sony is connected to. Make the Sony a primary drive and on it's own channel. Also make sure it's in DMA mode and not PIO.

Yes I have been trying at 4x since you recommended it and still no difference. I have tried to burn 3 different images and it errors at the same place. I can only assume that the problem lies with the writer or related to that, but as it's new I'm stumped as to what....???

The drive is a USB2 drive. I hope this isn't the problem as it was expensive for an external one.... :(

There isn't an option in the device manager to change the device to DMA, the tab isn't there. So i presume that its not an option.

I've never seen the DRU820 as an external drive. Might be the problem. I'm as stumped as you are now that you've told me it was a USB2 drive... I've only seen the DRU820 as an IDE drive.

I'd get a new drive or like I said get someone to sell you the games, which is quite illegal but people still do it.
