Hi,
I have not yet invested in a 360, but i have a questions for you first...
If i buy a 360 i dont want to open it all the time, i will flash it, then will want to open it no more. From what ive gathered this is possible as you can by a couple of drives as posted in this forum (reader and writer)
However my question is, can you buy a DL burner that can do both, read and write the xbox 360 backups? to save myself buying 2 drives?
also has anyone succesfully played on live with a firmware flashed xbox, I would use the original game disk to avoid that risk , but can live detect a flashed drive?
Kind Regards

i do not believe that there is a single drive that can read and then write the game. and no-one has had a problem playing backups on live, i do it all the time. and to answer the question of can the flashed FW be detected. we do not know yet. maybe down the road it can be. also, i think that laptop drives are not all that great for burning dvds. don't quote me on it or anything, just what i recall reading in the forums before.

Adam,
I think you mean that you just want to use the one dvd drive to read from the original game disk, write an iso, patch, then write a backup...
There is a tool / process called WxRipper to do this (am currently investigating, so cant confirm personally), however the following link should help you out:
http://forum.xbox-sky.com/showthread.php?t=12689
I would agree and say that laptop drives aren't the best, but with the software being continually being updated the steps to follow are relaxing...
Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi,
Thanks for the reply guys, i thought the laptop drivewould be no good.
One thing,
The link you gave me to the ripper, it involves opening the dvd drive, ive read that you can get certain drives with the right firmware and it appears you dont need to open the drive, is this correct? thats more what i was looking for, a single dl burner drive with the firmware so you dont have to open the drive, is ths possible?
Cheers

Actually to date the only PC drive that can read 360 games is the Samsung SH-D162C which I use with the Kreon firmware, works like a charm and worth every penny. No worry about security patching or ANYTHING, it generates the image and then you burn that on most DL burners using something like DVDDecryptor, OR you can also rip and burn using XBOX Backup Creator as well.
I prefer ripping using XBC and then burning using DVDDecryptor personally. I burn using a LG-4163B DL burner and it works everytime on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs without issue.
Hope that helps!

If you get the Samsung PC drive then all you need to do is dump the 360 game in, load XBC and click copy. Done! :)
I know a guy out of Toronto that sells the drives for $65 CAD and is VERY reliable with FAAAST shipping, highly recommended.
You can find a thread of his sales here if you are interested in having on shipped:

btw I am 328iGuy there as you will see my posts after I recieved mine! :)

Yes it is very simple, however it is quite hard to find these drives at any retailers now unfortunately.

Managed to read / patch / burn and play copy of GR:Advanced Warfighter last night just using my Pioneer 110D... The paper clip in eject hole trick used with wxRipper, not quite what your looking for but might save you a few quid...

Ah, I see, just the basic Pioneer firmware - not touched the drive since I bought it about a year ago now...
Using WxRipper 1.2, SS merger 1.4, and Clone CD to burn (cant remember what version, I'm at work...)
Saying that though, I've just ordered myself the Samsung drive for my PC - £20 off ebay...
Cheers,
Sebastian
