I used to own a Xbox ages ago and succesfully did a soft mod etc on it but sold it a while back.
Have picked up another xbox the other day and plan to do a softmod again using the Krazie_SC exploit.

The only thing concerning me is that at the back of my head I remember something about having to leave the XBOX plugged into the mains so that the onboard clock continues to receive trickle charge. I seem to rememeber if I leave the XBOX unplugged and switched off and the clock gets reset then the exploit is lost or things go wrong.

Is this correct? I dont have space under my TV so cant leave the XBOX plugged in and plan to put it away in a cupboard when not in use.

NO, you do however have to also include a valid MS dash on the C drive as well as your 'hacked' dashboard or you run into the error 16 problems with the clock issues. I've got boxes that I've soft modded and they've sat for months with no power connected and they boot every time when plugged back in because the MS dash is intact.

even if you don't have a valid MS dash you can unplug it for onward of 4-5 hrs before the internal clock resets. I've yet to understand why so many people don't run soft mods with the failsafe MS dash setup, it behooves me.

Ok - Thanks for the replies.
I am going to use the Krazie_SC PAL UXE v2.8 installer - does this allow me to leave a valid MS Dash intact? Do I have to do anything special?

the only soft mods I've installed i did via AID/SID you should be able to tell when the mod is finished if you have a MS dash left on your C drive I'll include a 'snap shot' of a soft modded C drive with XBMC as the default dashboard (labeled evoxdash.xbe) and MS dash fully in tact.

Ok - thanks I think I understand.
Pretty sure the SC_Lazie mod allows you to leave a MS Dash intact.

So, the only thing I have to watch out for is that if the XBOX has been left unplugged for a long time just start it up normally i.e. with the tray closed and so the normal dash comes up and I can just put the date in?

Thanks.

as long as your MS dash is intact you can boot to your other dashboard and just set the clock there if you want to. my 4 yr olds box is soft modded this way and it was unplugged for over a week recently while painting her room, i didn't even bother setting the date, it booted to XBMC and she picks her game and plays.

Thanks for the help guys - downloaded SIDs 4.5 installer and now modded.
One question - I picked the Dual Boot, Open Tray = Retail option during the softmod install.
I assumed this would allow me to get to the normal MS Dash if I started the XBOX with the Eject button - but all this does is take direct into XBOX Live menu with no way of getting back to the main dashboard - is this correct behaviour?
I know I can still get to the Dashboard from EvolutionX - but I would prefer when my daughter uses the XBOX with a genuine discs then she could just run them without worrying about EvolutionX hassle).

Also, I have googled for ages but cant find anything that explains all the options and settings under EvolutionX - any links?

i always use XBMC so i can't tell you any particulars on EvoX but with the original disc (or even a backup) in the drive the console should boot the disc without ever entering the dashboard if you've got the settings correct. therefore your daughter shouldn't have any problems.
