Hey. I bet you get a lot of questions like this but I was planning on buying a flip top or magic keys for my cousin for Christmas. I heard magic keys could break your playstation 2 and what not so if I could get any advice and recommended sites that would be nice.

Thank you!

I assume that you have a slim Ps2.

Magic Keys are probably the best swap method to use if you don't want to open your ps2 case. They usually work and don't damage your console. I suppose it's always possible that someone could break a ps2 using the Keys, but only if said person was either 1) angry or 2) stupid (or 3) all of the above). If you follow the instructions for installing the keys, there's absolutely no way that you can damage anything. AS long as you're NOT the type of person who tries to install things with a mallet, there's no danger. They're quite simple to install; really, they were easier to install than my ps2 itself. I highly recommend the Magic Keys as the *best* swap mathod, as mentioned earlier, if you don't want to open your ps2 case and void your warantee.

If you don't mind opening your case, then a flip-top will work just fine. They're also quite easy to install, and basically impossible to damage anything with, unless you do something that is obviously wrong. Again, a cro-magnon with a rubber mallet should not attempt this, but anyone else should have no problems at all.

As far as buying goes, since you will *have* to buy a swap magic set too, I recommend buying them in a bundle. I have heard many good things about http://www.ultimateconsoleguides.com , and this is the site from which I ordered my set; they came in two days, with free shipping.

Brilliant!

ill have to disagree. the first 2 tools of the magic keys are indeed very easy to innstall, however the 3rd tool is quite complicated. theres actually a thread here on how difficult it is.

i guess it just depends on good you are with these types of things.

I've noticed that a few people have has a problem with the third tool, but there's a good video available (somewhere) that shows how to get it in. Personally, I was able to get it inside on my first try, and I have the new model console (with blocking pin). I don't see what makes it so difficult, I mean the video shows it being done exactly, all you have to do is get the end in the hole and slide it in. I had more trouble with tool #1, because it kept falling out, then I did with tool #3. this was my own fault, though, and I ended up replacing the sticky stuff with carpet tape; worked fine...

Brilliant!

Go with the Swap Magic 3.6 and the Magic Keys. I have had them for almost a year and not had a problem. After you get them in correctly, you will not have a problem (yes you can close the lid when they are correctly installed) Just take your time, ask if you have any questions, and it will work prefect every time.

I must admit I have tried twice now to insert the 3 keys this evening, Tool 1 & 2, are simple. It is tool 3 which seems to be a pain.

For a start Tool 3 does not stay stuck to the PS/2, if you close the lid and reopen it the tool moves, I have tried many times to reseat tool 3, but closing the lid disturbs it.

If you keep the PS/2 open you just have to pray that tool 3 is in the right place. If I get as far as being able to insert a backup game, then all I get is its an invalid PS/2 disk, which is so annoying. I am using HP DVD+R 4.7Gb disks.

I have asked supplier to give me returns address, and have asked them for an easier alternative product, maybe the Flip Top Set 3.6 for "slim" PS Two and see if this is any easier. Im not fussed about opening up the PS2 as long as the equipment bl**dy works.

Is there any issues using DVD+R disks, and the brand is HP?

Here is the link that talks about the install.
http://www.magickeys.net/MagicKeys%202.html

While it is not as easy as it looks there, it can be done and work great.

If you look at the picture of key number 3, you can see that the little "foot" on the end is rotated slightly away from the base. If you get this rotation right, it will work fine. Just mess with moving it around alittle bit, trying it each time (attempt to close and open the case without any interference) and once you get it, just use another piece of tape to hold it down for good.

Thank you for the link of the install video, I must admit I did install it correctly 'twice' now.

It just needs to be tweaked/moved until the da*m thing works.

Is there a decent media I should use e.g. DVD+R or DVD-R disks, the backup disks play better with?

I did try a HP DVD+R 4.7Gb disk which did not work, it was Buzz 'Sports Game' Is it best do what DVD Decrypter says and burn the software at a slower speed rate?
