I tried burning my first 360 game today and after 93%, it said close disc failed. I burned the iso file instead of the .dvd file, which I found out later is the correct one to open. Is this what caused my error? Also I have read where CloneCD sets booktype and some say it doesn't. Which is true?

did you make sure that you set the later break right? because all i use to burn with imgburn is the iso..i delete the .dvd files and have never had a problem...just make sure you set the layer break under options...or else it wont burn right.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with 8ull$#!T!!!

Ok, the second disc I set booktype to DVD-Rom with DVDInfoPro and then set layer break with CloneCD. It got to about 90% and said failed to write. I then tried DVD Decrypter after loading .dvd file and burned at 4X and it completed. I placed game in 360 and it said "to play, put in a 360 console. I shut down the console and then turned it back on and the game loaded fine. Is it common for backups to work one minute and not the next? Also, is the .dvd file always the same layer break and just the name of the game followed by the extension .dvd, such as sonicx360-dgr.dvd? The first time I tried a backup, I did like you said which was burn just the iso, however, I didn't do the layer break then. Why even make the .dvd file if we don't need them?

the dvd file just set the layer break for you. if you dont want to use it then just burn the iso but make sure you set the layer break at 1913760. (the layer break is the same for all 360 games)

Is ImgBurn the most compatible? Also, I am planning on getting a 111D. I am going to order one Tuesday. I have a NEC 3500 and used Verbatim DVD+R DL which I got the last one to work. I think where I messed up with ImgBurn was I didn't set the layer break. And as far as CloneCD, I loaded the .dvd file which had notes like this:
LayerBreak=1913760
sonicx360-dgr.dvd
Not sure what went wrong there and the .dvd file I used with DVD Decrypter just had sonicx360-dgr.dvd.

im not sure about the imgburn being the best program. i havent used it ever. i always use clone cd and load the dvd file. i make my rips with schtrom 3.0 and i use the xtream 3.0 (whole disk) mode. has worked everytime except for the game star trek legacy. I have figured out how to back up that game too if you need help with that one let me know.

Most problems come from the fact that people don't want to spend the money on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. Use these and make sure the layer break is set manually on all programs except CloneCD. The .dvd file contains info on the layerbreak for that program.

When I tried using CloneCD, I didn't have a .dvd file so I created my own. The notepad had the text:
LayerBreak=1913760
sonicx360-dgr.dvd
I guess that's where I messed up. When I loaded that DVD file with CloneCD, I probably only needed to put sonicx360-dgr.dvd in the text.

Nope, where you messed up was here
LayerBreak=1913760
sonicx360-dgr.iso
Save this as sonicx360.dvd
