PSP Briked ?????

My son has just got his PSP from father Xmas, he played PE5 for 10 minutes before switching to Lemmings (which would not play due to firmware upgrade needed). He has been warned by a school friend not to update, as it will ruin his PSP, so when it started updating he switched it off. Now it appears to be briked (having read up all morning on internet). Can anybody help, removing battery and memory card for half hour, with no luck. This PSP has never been attached to a computer and has never had any downloads. Not sure what to do next !!!!

turnign the psp off while upgrading is saying a PERMANANT goodbye to it. sorry to hear that your time with your psp wasnt good. sell it, if u have warrenty/recipt give it back and get a new one.

Touran, thanks for such a prompt reply. Cannot believe Sony release such a pile of rubbish that would allow this to happen. Will return to store and hopefully get a replacement.

Hi there, I've actually got a nice PSP this morning too and it sounds like your son has the same as mine (as I'm not planning to update it).
Bricking usually occurs (as far as my understanding goes) when you turn off the PSP while it is updating or remove the memory card while updating. Another way it could have occurred is if malicious software was downloaded onto the card, hence why you have to be careful about where you go for downloads.
I'm not sure if he's made the same mistake I have, but I thought mine was bricked because the buttons wouldn't respond, but I found out it was in hold mode which locks up the buttons (silly me) in which case all that needs to be done is the power slide needs to be slid up (when the PSP is on) to the middle position.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, that's really rotten luck if it has been bricked. I'm not sure what else to say other than if it has, there's only 3 possible solutions:
1, Scrap it (no!!!) and buy another.
2, Buy a new motherboard.
3, Get the PSP chipped so it can run what your son needs to, but it'll also fix it if it is bricked.

well you really cant blame sony, i mean they show you so many warnings before upgrading like dont switch off the psp.

I can blame Sony & I will, he was not trying to upgrade he was just trying to play it. The fact it chose to upgrade itself and he panicked, he didn't have time to read the manual. Thanks for your response, but in future keep your opinion to yourself if you cannot help !!!!

a little tip, when u go back to the shop, DONT say its "bricked" as they will know you know about homebrew and downgrading and stuff, inwhich case than can think otherwise and not give u a replacement. tell them the truth, that this happend when upgrading! NO homebrew terms!

I did it myself, ignoring all warnings. Trying to downgrade my son's PSP that is. He has an 2 yrs old PSP which had 1.5 from start but was updated to 2.60 a year ago. For X-mas I bought him a 2 GB memory to try to play som ISO games.
Have been scanning sites for 3 days now and thought I'd figured out how to upgrade to 2.71 and then downgrade to 1.5.
Part one, to 2.71 worked well, but after complete downgrade to 1.5 it never started again...
Found another thread with hint how it might could get to life again, but no success. Guess I'll have to buy him a new one. Boooooring!

lol, i dunno how u can go rong downgrading! all u do is press "install on the program and it insatlls everything on your psp. then u just oress "x" voila a downgraded psp.

Well, it seem like the same procedure can make it all over-and-out too. I've been in the compu business programming and all too long to be surprised when it all fail even if you do the same as always but this time it just fail.
