I understand eveything ( I think ) lol but I have one snag! I got my original firmware read and backed up. when I get to this step from the readme -

Double click "Make X42a.bin" or "Make X42b.bin" to create x42a.bin (Xtreme4.2A firmware with your key from orig.bin) or x42b.bin (Xtreme4.2B firmware with your key from orig.bin). Thanks to eXOBeX for X360SAM.EXE

I double click as it says but a black window just kind of flashes in front of me and disapears. and does nothing, Im runing xp what am I doing wrong?

Once you have your hacked firmware you use the Samhack to put the xtreme firmware on your drive. That's all that's left to do.

Thats the problem It dont make the hacked firmware. I confirmed this by exploring the firmware before and after with a hex editor. its basicly not puting my keys in the hacked firmware.

I have flashed many 360's but with the old extreme where you just but your keys in with a hex editor. I wanted to upgrade to a newer version of extreme, but things have changed a lot. I can read and flash my drive no problem its the new way of making of the moded firmware that is stumping me.

Try xtreme5. It has .bat files that automatically add your dvd rom key into the firmware.

actually thats what im trying to do the readme for x5 just says 4.2 in the readme instructions. just a typo i think.

and yes thats what I need to do and I will be good to go, but when I click the .bat file it just flashes the dos window and it disapears without adding my keys or anything to the moded bin.

does it have anything to do with me runing windows xp? I have tried this on 2 computers with the same results, both are xp.

Ok I got 1 step closer lol. I downloaded the new Xtreme5.1 final. Now the readme says

(In Windows, copy orig.bin to same directory as this release (same directory as ReadMe.txt and X360SAM.exe)

Double click "Make Xtreme firmware.cmd" and follow the prompts. Thanks to eXOBeX for X360SAM.EXE

Copy x51x.bin to boot disk where x is a,b,c or d.)

And now the dos window pops up and works and I follow the prompts, and it says (Xtreme v5.1a firmware created: X51a.bin) but the X51a.bin is no where to be found. I thought maybe it stuck it in some other folder for some reason so I searched the entire hard drive with the windows search tool for X51a and it finds nothing. Any tips or advice?

atleast Im one step closer I got the dos window to run lol.

I have no idea why its not putting the file in the same directory for you. I run the make xtreme.cmd and it puts the x5.1a file in the same directory for me.
