Quick 3.02 OE-A question

This might sound like a nubbish question but i couldn't find the answer around the current post. I was wandering if it is possible to buy a brand new psp from retail and update the firmware to 3.02 oe-a and then being able to download psx games online and transfer them to the psp, sorry if my question has already been answered.

It depends on the firmware that the brand new retail PSP comes with.
It must have firmware 1.5 if you want to upgrade it to 3.02 OE-A/B.
If it is firmware 2.00 or 2.01 then you can downgrade it to 1.5.
For firmware 2.5, 2.6, 2.71 or 2.8, your PSP must not have a TA-082 motherboard in order to downgrade to 1.5.
For any firmware above 2.8, you can't downgrade.

I also have a question. My psp has been downgraded and uses devhook I've been using homebrew for quite a while, but I've never used these custome FW's. Now I believe that they must be flashed on? How is that done, and also I've just read some where u must install 3.02 oe-a before you can install oe-b? Do I need to install any of the previous ones? Also is there a simpler method like using devhook to get to 3.02 oe-b as I only care about the psx emu with wich I can use my own image files to play.

Yeah, custom firmwares are flashed on. They replace your current firmware 1.5. This is done by running an installer EBOOT.PBP on your PSP. However 3.02 OE-B has all the features of firmware 1.5 and more (however some homebrew may not work).
To install firmware 3.02 OE-B you need to install firmware 3.02 OE-A first. To install 3.02 OE-A, you dont need anything installed i.e you can just upgrade from 1.5.

Ok I got 3.02 OE-A running :D WoW that was pretty simple. Now some more questions. I tried updating to 3.02 OE-B but it says error when I try to launch it... Any ideas?
I tried to convert my own ps1 game to work with the psp. Heres what I've done so far:
1. I dled the cygwin1.ddl and placed it on the pop folder.
2. I had a previous IMG file from my psx emu on my comp, I'm going to use this as in the FAQ it says IMG works as and iso so I named it FF7_cd1.
3. I saved the popstation.bat file with the following in it "popstation FF7_cd1.iso"
4. I added my own icon and background following your guides instructions in PNG format.
5. I dled hotshots golf 2 from Blackcats and extracted the eboot.pbp and keys.bin file, placed them into the popstation folder and renamed EBOOT.PBP to BASE.PBP.
6. double clicked the popstation.exe and it flashed a quick msdos style window and then gone in less then a second, and I got nothing, no new EBOOT.PBP file or anything? What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm, try placing the cygwin1.dll in X:\Windows\System32\ (where X is the drive letter of the drive windows is on).
EDIT: I just realised what you did wrong. In the bat file you have to put "popstation FF7_cd1.img".
BTW Did you put the OEB_UPDATE folder into X:\PSP\GAME150\ (where X is the drive letter of your PSP) ?

actually it was the icon/pic files i forgot to add .PNG to both of them LOL! Anywhos I still can't get 3.02 OE-B updater to work keeps giving me an error sign...

Whats the error message it gives?
Did you put the OEB_UPDATE folder into X:\PSP\GAME150\ (where X is the drive letter of your PSP)?

Acutally I put it into X:\PSP\GAME\ as mines isnt GAME150, I actually tried to rename it and it actually wouldnt even open then from the psp menu...
The game could not be started.

Try change your options so that GAME150 is for 1.5 kernel homebrew and then copy the OEB_UPDATE to GAME150.

When you installed 3.02 OE-A you should have two folders in GAME folder of your Mem stick...
One called GAME3.02 and one called GAME1.50
You need to place the update eboot of 3.02 OE-B into the GAME1.50 folder and on your PSP update to 3.02 OE-B..

Wait if you don't know how to change the GAME150 folder for 1.5 homebrew how did you change it in the first place?
The game150 folder is for 1.5 homebrew by default.
So just copy the OEB_UPDATE folder to X:\PSP\GAME150\ and then try and run it.

no I dont have either of those folders inside my \psp\GAME folder. I still have my original folders from the 3.02 OE-A installation can I get rid of them excluding the recovery folder or do i need them still?

No you dont create them inside the GAME folder!
You create the GAME150 folder inside the PSP folder!
So you put the OEB_UPDATE folder into X:\PSP\GAME150\!

How can you not have those folders when you installed the custom firmware?
Those folders should have been there when you first installed 3.02 OE-A, dunno, maybe eternalis can enlighten us.

Wait I said I renamed the GAME folder to GAME150 and then nothing worked.... Like when you go into the psp mem menu nothing even loaded so a renamed it back to GAME and it worked all my Homebrew showed up aswell as my iso games...

Here man, I'll make it easy and simple for you..
Go into your "PSP" folder in your mem stick.. \PSP\
In there make a new folder called "GAME150" and "GAME302"
So it looks like this : \PSP\GAME150
\PSP\GAME302
Now, go into the "GAME150" folder and paste in OEB_UPDATE folder, then update on your PSP.

DOOOOOPPPPE! It worked :D But I got some more questions...
1. I previously had Devhook do I actually need it anymore or can I delete it?
2. Also can I delete all the 3.02 folders now or do I need them agian excluding the recovery folder.
3. I can't load my snes emu/gbsp emu?
4. Finally my Iso's load nicely yet none of the gamesaves work anymore it says they're corrupt?

@evolve123- Thats wrong. You place the GAME150 and GAME302 folders in X:\PSP\ not X:\PSP\GAME.
@xxsaijin- You may need DevHook for some ISOs. Most ISOs load straight from the GAME-->Memory Stick menu.
You have to put your emulators and other homebrew in X:\PSP\GAME150\ or it wont work.

The GAME302 folder is not for homebrew, it is for official Sony demos and the PSX for PSP games that use the 3.02 kernel.

I hope BOOSTER updates DevHook and it allow's people with emulated 1.50 firmware to also play PS1 games without the need of custom firmware. :dreaming:

ok got everything running psx iso works with my custom icon :D and homebrew works. Still my iso gamesaves do not load.... and can I delete the custom fw installer and updaters?
