I have the exact same question about the exact same game actually and was just coming on here to see if anyone could help me out. I am trying to backup my copies of Halo, Halo 2 and a couple of other X-Box games as I recently destroyed one of them.

I have a flashed Samsung drive in my computer which I have used to successfully backup many of my 360 games using X-Box backup creator 3.2 and burnt them on my Pioneer DVR-111.

I have tried putting the Halo disk in the flashed Samsung drive in my PC and using X-Box backup creator in the original X-Box backup mode but I keep getting and error about not being able to read certain sectors of the disk and asking if I want to fill these missing bits with 0's. The results in a non-functional backup.

I have looked around online but have been unable to find anything on ripping the games using a flashed 360 PC drive. I can only find tutorials on backing up X-Box games using a flashed original X-Box and transferring the files to your PC via FTP, building an image and burning that.

Any assistance people can give me on how to do this, if it is even possible, would be greatly appreciated.

yes it is possible. I backed up h2 for my 360 with Schtrom360XtractV3.1. I just had to go to the options and change the disc type to xbox1. I use the SH-D162c drive for making backups though.

Sorry, when I said Samsung drive in my PC I meant a SH-D162C, I just couldn't remember the model number of it.

I haven't tried Schtrom360XtractV3.1, but have heard of it. I will download it, give it a go and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the advice oosel.

i tried ripping halo2 with schtrom. went to options and changed it to xbox1 disc. there wasnt a button to confirm the change so i figured it'd work if i just close it. i then started the ripping and after a while it gave me an error about sectors but it was normal for xbox1 games so i continued it. i then burned the image with imgburn and tried it in my 360 and when the original xbox icon came up in the beginning a slide cam up that said this original xbox game has encountered an error. r there any settings i have to change in imgburn to get this to work or is there a better program to burn with

I honestly wish I could remember what I did when I backedup H2. can you backup 360 games with your current settings? If so then Im stumped.

Well I have got it to work. Thanks for everyones advice.

As suggested I used Schtrom360Xtract to extract the image. I tried it by just loading up the program, leaving all the settings as default, putting the disk in and attempting to extract the image, but it still threw up all kinds of errors about not being able to read certain sectors and when it finished it said that it could not read around 2500 sectors on the disk.

I then went into the options and under "drive type" selected "SH-D162C" and also changed the disk type to "X-Box", instead of "X-Box 360" and also turn on "sector mapping". As was mentioned by oosel, the option menu has no button to confirm your changes so I just press enter, the option menu goes gray and I then click the close button. I am not sure if this is actually required, but I have done this each time since and the have never got the message about not being able to read the sectors on the disk.

This process produces an image file which I then burnt onto a Verbatim +DL at 2.4x using Clone CD. I put it in my 360 and it boots up fine.

Thanks once again for the help. I thought it was stupid that you couldn't rip the disks from a SH-D162C as it is essentially a 360 drive, so I am glad that I have managed to get it to work.

Hmm...I may have been wrong. The backup copy of Halo loads until you select your profile and go to start the game. It then tells me that it could not read the disk and it may be dirty.

I am yet to try Halo 2, which I backed up tonight, so will try that tomorrow and let you know if I have the same problem.

you need to have the Backward Compatability CD from xbox.com installed to play a back up HALO 2 on the 360 right?

i found the problem which was the layer break. i use imgburn tobutn my 360 backups, so i put it in the settings to automatically put the right layer break in. it did it also with the halo image so it didnt work. i tried clone cd which i used before and it just put the same layer break as it was supposed to be from the .dvd file and it works fine

Well my backed up Halo 2 worked fine. Maybe it was just a rip or burn of Halo. I will give it another go and see what happens. I hope it works as I only have 1 DL disk left.
