i bought a dvd/cd writer abd rewriter its lite on

the problem is that i put in a DVD-R and and a menu pos out as like burn cd video ,burn cd, music whatver but its a DVD-R and why does it take as a cd and i cant burn big stuff cause it says its a cd but its not

Hello.

I assume you are referring to the WinXP action box that gives you a choice of options when inserting a blank disk.

WinXP has no native support for burning DVDs. Hence it assumes all blank disks are CDs. The lack of native support for DVD burning is why third party programs are used for burning DVDs.

Are you sure you have a DVD burner that burns both DVDs and CDs? Could you possibly have purchased a combo drive, one that burns CDs but only reads DVDs?
