It was a hard drive space issue. A new 250 GB HD appears to solve the problem. Thanks!

What my opinion in the compression is that DVD Shrink is better when you want to keep all the special features and all the extra's. If you don't want the extras and you just want the movie go with the method you are using and use CloneDVD 2 and burn the movie and there will be no compression and that is then the best quality.[/quote]

I appreciate your help (both you and MichaelP1), but I still can?t get my head round this compression thing. If I have a dvd with 2 hours worth of information on it (film and extras), now that isn?t going to fit on to a single layer, therefore it has to be compressed. I?m not sure of the exact figure, but let?s say a single layer disk will take a film 1hr 35mins long. This means my original 2 hour dvd will have to be compressed to allow for the extra 25 minutes. I stick it in CloneDVD and it tells me that the quality will be, say, 80% (I?m guessing here, but the exact figure is not important). Now, are you telling me that Shrink can give me a better compression ratio than this and, if so, why isn?t Clone compressing it to this quality? I assume someone can work out the figures, but surely it is impossible for Shrink to give me 85, 90 or even 100% quality as it?s not possible to squeeze 2 hours of material on to a single layer dvd without compression. Furthermore, what is Clone DVD doing wrong that it cannot match the compression ratio offered by Shrink? If 2 hours of material takes 80% compression, why would it be any different using Shrink?

Hey EZR not sure about the programs you use. But that problem comes up when you burn a dvd and have it to save it on your hard drive first then burn it to dvd. See if you can pick a different setting before you burn. It should say something like burn at once. What this does is as its changing the information instead of saving it. Its writing it to the disk at the same time. do this and you wont get that message again. Though buying a new Hardrive is cool. Another option you can use when you burn.

Houdi7 , the compression will be the same with CloneDVD 2 or DVD Shrink

another option is to use Daul-Layer media to get NO compression

@Houdi7

The difference in quality is really minimal if you just have a basic TV you will not see any difference when viewing your movies. CloneDVD 2 does compress and there is nothing wrong with compression. It does save time too.

Cheers, I understand exactly what you?re both saying and I?m okay with that. However, unless I?m picking him up wrong, Borhan9 is saying that if you burn 2 individual copies (exactly the same, warts, extras and all) of a DVD using CloneDVD for one and Shrink for the other, then the Shrink version will be of a better quality. I don?t see why.

that would only be on a dvd thats high compressed and you would have to use the "Deep Analysis" option in DVD Shrink .other wise CloneDVD 2 quality is the same

chop2113-- I checked last night and I didn't see an option to burn directly to the DVD. That would be nice.
