2.71SE and Memory Card - A Question

I have a PSP which has 2.71SE installed. For Christmas I treated myself to a 4GB memory stick but I'm having problems with it.

I think the card is fake and whilst I can format and load backup iso images of my games without any problem, I get 'file is corrupt' errors when trying to save progress. I've spoken to the seller and he is happy to replace or refund.

But I've noticed something else weird which my colleague thinks he recalls reading about but is not sure.

If I put upto 3 backups on the card then they appear on the PSP menu. However, if I add a 4th, 5th or so on, they don't appear on the menu - just the first three.

Is there a restriction in the firmware which limits the number of backups that can be accessed from the menu?

i also have a 4gb card and have never had a problem with more than 3 isos on it.
