What works 100% of the time is 4x with Verbatim DVD+R DL and CloneCD. I'm telling you guys, 4x is the way to go.

That burning at the slowest speed is wrong. Plain wrong. Here's the practical answer. If you burner will burn a DVD+R DL at 16x, use 8x.. If it will burn it at 8x, use 4x
If it won't burn anything above 2.4x, then use 2.4x
Always best to burn at HALF the rated media speed. Verbatim DVD+R DL are 2.4x but it says on the package.. UP TO 8X SPEED with COMPATIBLE HIGH SPEED DVD+R DL DRIVES. Therefore, burn at 4x
If everyone on this site would burn at 4x and use Verbatim DVD+R DL, we wouldn't have 50 threads a week about bad burns and what speed to use.

Half of the 8x discs, so burn at 4x
