hey guys, i need some help. i just got a 12 month subscrip. for xbl and trying to use it on my 360, but when i hook it up to my 360 (the ethernet chord to my router) and try to sign up for xbl, it says it cant detect an isp. now i called xblsupport and they said i have to call brighthouse (my service provider) and ask them to give me a new one for my 360... now that just doesent seem right to me. anyway my setup is this...
my xbox and xbox 360 go into a little linksys (wired) router. then my pc hooks up to that router. my pc then connects through the internet via wireless usb adapter. which gets its signal from the wireless router in my living room which is plugged into my computer (which gets the internet through a modem cable. heres a picture if its hard to understand.

please if anyone can help, i need it!! and as far as contacting brighthouse do you think they'd give me a new ip address for the 360??? or even know what im talkin bout? thanx and happy holidays.
hello there mr.grinch

That is one crazy setup you got there. If you can, I would just go with the Xbox 360 wireless adapter that way it can get a direct wireless connection from itself to your Netgear wireless router which is directly connected to your cable modem. If I had to guess what was wrong with the way you have it setup now, perhaps you don't have the Internet Connection sharing enabled on the PC that is labeled My PC. Otherwise if you could replace your Linksys wired router with another wireless router, that would also work, and probably be cheaper than the XBox 360 wireless adapter.

BTW, is your regular Xbox also having the same issue, or is it able to connect just fine to Xbox live?

Otherwise if there is anyone possible to run an ethernet cable between your wired Linksys router and your wireless Netgear router, that would also work. There are lots of ways to get this working, it just depends what you have available to do. :)

oh my b is missed the modem in ur room...i dont have that so im trying pure wireless...i just have a transmitter which does nothing for ethernet...then yea it should work...if not try wiring the ethernet through you walls directly to the modem(if all else fail cause this is messy) if this doesnt work then theres a problem with your connection and that is a problem with ur service provider

Also the problem with calling your ISP for help with this.... most ISPs will not support 3rd party equipment. Most of the time they will only support your Xbox 360 connected directly to your modem, but it just depends on who you talk to at your ISP. I work for a pretty big one, and I know how it goes. :)

wow didnt think id get that many replies, but thnx. anyway i wanted to get the 360 wireless adapter from the begining but then that would leave out my regular xbox which cant do that. i wanted to just get a long ethernet chord and plug it into my router but ill have to get another cord, (my mom hates the idea but i could probably still do it)on a side note i cant play pc games like starcraft or starsiege tribes (does this have anything to do with the ethernet connection thing?) anyway my isp provider (brighthouse) probably woudnt like this one bit... so i dunno but it seems like the best course of action is to just directly connect my pc to the router in my livingroom (thus defeating the whole purpose of wireless :) anyway get bck to me as soon as ya can with any ideas cuz id like to play tonight, gettin tired of xbc. tootles!

I would buy a 50 foot Ethernet cable and hook it into your netgear and the back of your 360. .

Put the modem in your room and run it to the router, having your xbox, 360, and pc connected via ethernet, then let the family room pc connect with the wireless usb adapter.

I use a similiar setup and mine works good. Not as good as a real wire but good enough.
I have two Buffalo Routers, one a high powered the other is regular. However, Linksys Wireless Routers can use the same firmware I'm using. It's called DD-WRT, just go to http://www.dd-wrt.com and it will tell you how to flash your router and which firmware to use. The reason you want to use this firmware is because it allows WDS. Which will allow you to bridge two wireless routers together. I 'm almost possitive it will not work on your netgear but if you just buy a regular Buffalo router you can pick them up really cheap. Under $50.
My setup is as following:
Cable Modem -> Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 -wired-> Linksys RTP300 Router
-wired-> iMac
-wireless-> Buffalo WHR-G54S
Buffalo WHR-G54S -wireless-> Buffalo WHR-HP-54 (Main router)
-wired-> Mac Mini
-wired-> XBox 360
-wired-> Playstation 2
-wireless-> Dell SmartStep 200N Laptop /w Buffalo WLI-CB-G54HP Card
This setup works well enough that I can stream DivX movies across the network with smooth playback and almost instant FF, RW and seek capabilities.
