Try going to the photo Icon and press Triangle and choose slideshow. It usually loads HEN easier doing it this way rather then manualy entering the HEN folder.

keep trying it. Sometimes it can take several attempts to get it to go into HEN.

Try formating your Memory Stick and start over from step 1.

You need to install Custom Firmware on the PSP. The only option you have is a Pandora battery. HERE is a guide to making a Universal Unbricker/Upgrader (Pandora battery) that will install 371 M33-2 on the PSP. You will need a PSP that has custom firmware 3.XX or higher to create the Universal unbricker/Upgrader.

More then likely HEND didn't load properly. Try again and after running the HEND go to System Settings System Information and check to see if HEND is listed under system software. if it is try running the applications. if it isn't then try loading HEND again.

The easiest way to load HEND is by going to the photo icon pressing triangle and selecting slideshow.

You could downgrade but I would suggest using the 3.52 M33 to create a Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick (Universal Unbricker V3) which will install straight to 3.71 M33-2 without doing all the downgrading then upgrading to the newest M33 firmware.

You could also update the 3.52 M33 with this as well so all 3 of the PSP's are updated.

Go HERE and follow this guide to create the Pandora Battery + Magic memory Stick.

Hi guys, I'm back

you helped me a bunch doing my lil kid's psp
well... he dropped it and broke the lcd
I bought a new screen off ebay and installed it
but now it won't read the UMD... it makes noises like it's trying to read and then says it can't read the disk
I think I also screwed up the button bar connector when I took it apart... I can get volume down to work but not volume up, also I don't think the start button is working

I'm guessing I should buy him a new psp for christmas but I'm worried I'll get one with firmware that I can't downgrade or something

so.... what do I do now?

thanks again for all your help
you gys are the greatest

^^Well if you have (or have access to ) a pandora battery, it wouldnt really matter what firmware version you get from the store.

Though I imagine that you would be pretty hard pressed to find a new one that has a firmware which can be downgraded without a pandora battery these days..You could get a used one from Gamestop or something that will have a lower firmware on it.
Or maybe just realign the button bar-maybe you screwed the faceplate on too tight when you replaced the LCD? That sometimes causes the buttons to not work.

Personally, I would go back and crack it open again and make sure all of your ribbon cables are seated properly..There are two ribbon cables for the UMD drive, one may just loose? If you have custom firmware running on it-you dont really need the UMD drive anyway, you can play the games from the memory stick without a UMD inserted...But I would go back and double-check your connections before shelling out for a new psp...

I would go with 3.71 M33-4 custom firmware or 3.80 M33-5.

What firmware does your PSP have now?

Go HERE and folow the guide. Start off with 1.50 to 3.52 M33-4 then you can update all to 3.71 M33-=4 and even 3.80 M33-5 if you want.

Your going to have issues playing newer PSP games on 3.40 OE-A due to firmware requirements on newer PSP games. So upgrading to 3.71 M33-4 or 3.80 M33-5 is a better option.

Try installing all files again then go to photo then trinagle and slide show agatriangleslide showin.

You might have to do it a few times before HEND will load.

After you do the steps go to System Settings then System Information and it should say 2.71 HEND for software.

it's supposed to be a blue screen when clicking on hend... after the blue screen, you will go back to the xmb right? try checking your system version... it will indicate a hend word after 2.71....
