Please help. PSP not reading UMDs

Recently my PSP has started skipping, and all together stopped reading disks. after sitting on my desk for a month, I picked it up and it worked fine for an hour or so. Now i get skipping again.
My question is, should i pay someone to service it? OR send it in to sony? (It's still covered by its one year warranty)

If i send it to sony, they may give me a new unit. Will the new model be downgradeable?

i've heard about people with the same problem and it seems like something is overheating inside and stopping the disc's from being read

i dont what would happen if sony got it as people have said thiers have been changed for new models of the firmware been changed to the newest versions

so all i can say is take it to somewhere you trust who will be able to fix it for you

i not sure about this but i thought the only thing that could overheat in the psp is the thing that connect to the internet..

there is a post on here somewhere with someone else with the same problem he said his overheated and had to cool down before it would read the discs again

more then likely u just blew your laser motor out do u watch movie umd's on that system? i ask cause thats the main reason that happens my advice is just get it fixed by some one at a local game store or any one you trust knows what they are doing

if u lived in ny i would have done it i have half of brooklyn comeing 2 me to get there system fixed lol

well it's reading umds like crap now, and it's making a faint clicking/chattering noise on regular intervals. it goes from 1/2 second clitches to 10 second pauses..

nobody thinks i should have warranty work done? Or better yet can anyone tell me if the newest model psp can be downgraded? (via GTA liberty city or any other means)
