error 5 AND error 6 after upgrade

Alright, I've been searching around these forums for hours and I'm still not sure what I should do exactly.

I was trying to upgrade my hard drive. I used a brand new lockable drive. I made a boot disc using xboxhdm. I used the disc to generate the passcode. I then created the partitions and copied the files from the disc onto the drive. I locked the drive with the same passcode. I checked it 3 times to make sure I typed it right. I stuck the hd in the xbox. I got error 6. I ran unlockhd and unlocked the drive. Now I have error 5. Where did I go wrong and what should I do? OH, also my original hard drive has crashed. I backed up the files from the drive before it crashed then realized that I used the version of Evox that uses shadowing for the C drive so really I might not even have all of the files from the soft modded stock drive. I really need some good information and help please.

I forgot to mention that my box is soft-modded. I don't have a mod chip.

I already read that. I put it in the xbox unlocked I get error code 5, I put it in the Xbox locked I get error code 6. I'm thinking of buying a soderless mod chip that is easy to install. Will this solve the problem and which one should I buy?
