I think that the only driver update CD was the one that came with the DVD remote, and it was only for fat PS2's. Dont think updating will help at all anyway.

There are NO UPDATES as far as THE PS2 AND DVD drivers are concerned.
Believe me!

There are updated drivers just not for the DVD drive.

I have a slim and a chubby. I updated the dvd player software on the chubby once by downloading the program and then burning it. I played it in the drive and it is all automatic. If this can be done I'm sure there has to be something for the slim. Try google. ps2 slimline driver update. That will get you closer.

Believe me!
You sir are sadly mistaken, the update in question is stored on your memorycard in the BAEXEC-DVDPLAYER directory and contains the following files:
dvdplayer-e.ver
dvdplayer-j.ver
dvdplayer.dmy
dvdplayer.elf
dvdplayer.ico
dvdplayer.id
dvdplayer.irx
icon.sys
If the files contained here are newer than those on the PS2 they are used instead of those in the PS2 BIOS. certain regions of the BIOS are flashable, but not the entire thing.
