I don't think there is a way. Unless you get someone small enough to fit inside the vents! lol.

Try holding down Square, L1, etc... and see if you get a configuration screen. If you do, that'll tell you what chip (or clone of a chip) you have.

During boot up. However, if you don't get anything, it probably means you don't have a DMS or Matrix Infinity chip.

it is very hard to tell after the fact.
You can look up mod chip boot modes and try a few things to see what works and possibly figure it out.
Or some chips show the chip name or a picture of some kind when they boot up. But in general it will not be easy.

Due to the fact that there are a lot of clone chips out there that use an older version of the Matrix Infinity firmware, it may even say Matrix on boot up, but still not be a REAL Matrix Infinity chip.

It's probably a Clone for
1)PSX GAMES TRY HOLDING THE POWER BUTTON FOR A SECOND AND QUICKLY RELEASE AS YOU FEEL THE VIBRATION AT YOU FINGERS AND ASA YOU RELEASE QUICKLY STAB ON IT ONCE AGAIN(HARD ENOUGH TO REST THE SYSTEM).
If above trick works then its a Ripper Family chip.

If it doesn't play PSX games, that could be because that specific wire was not installed. I don't know of any chips that don't play PSX games if installed properly.

as i said my ps2 came WITH the modchip already installed. so i really dont know if they installed it properly, but its a trustable shop and sells on wholesale level, so i think that most probably it was installed properly!

Well... you have a working but unidentified chip.

No button you press doing boot up helps identify it.

The shop you purchased it from doesn't provide any info.

You can't or don't want to open the system up to check.

Maybe just be happy you have a working system?

<sigh>

Yes, there are screws. Have you tried looking on the bottom of your PS2 underneath the pads?

I give up. You're hopeless!

people are not always hard on newbies here.
http://www.teammodders.com/tutorials/ps2/
there are tutorials here on how to take apart about any model PS2, including the slimline.
But i still think that you should talk to the people you bought it from first. People who have no idea what they are doing should not go opening up their PSTwo and messing with it. That is how ribbon cords get ripped and other problems as well.

just google "ps2 modchip" and start going around to sites that sell them, they all should have pictures of the chips they sell.
