I currently run DVDShrink with the Maximum Smoothness settng checked. It takes between 2 and 3 hours to back up a dvd. I'm wondering if its worth it. Would have a different setting still give me a quality copy, and take less time?

@headcase

It sounds like you're having DMA issue. Try this guide to fix/uninstall your drivers. What are your comp. specs? Hmm.. 2 plus -> 3 hrs does seems a bit too long using DVD Shrink. That's about the right time for me when I used DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.70 via "3 PASSES VBR", but that's another level (different story).

I'm using a 3 plus year old Intel P4, 2.66GHz, 1GB RAM and when I used DVD Shrink (DA + AEC + Max Smooth/Sharp), my times are roughly 90 - 100 minutes depends on how big/long is the movie.

Best of luck!!

Lets see. I have an Intel Celeron CPU 2.0 GHZ 504 MB Of Ram. Its about 4 years old. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers earlier. I havent tested it out since then though. thanks , i'll see how this works though.

Ok just tried it. Still running really slow. Now the movie is needing around 50 percent compression, but still. It seems that its taking even longer latley. Had one take over 5 hours the other night.

That maybe the culprit. I hate to say this, but Celeron is pretty much slow when it comes to ripping, transcoding or encoding and burning movies. Your best bet is to get a new processor (i.e. the new core2duo from Intel or AMD).

Best of luck!!
