so I used DVD Shrink for a movie I download off the internet after paying for it. I used winavi converter to convert the files from AVI to VOB then used DVD Shrink to burn the movie after it encoded it where everything went flawless but then it started the burn process at around 93% it said disc error then it stopped and this message came up (see below)... So i took out the dvd and played it in my dvd player most of the dvd was good and clear but towards the end it started acting up and freezing and the sound was off. So why did this happen? Should I try a differnet dvd brand right now im using Fujifilm.. ALso this is the dvd burner I have http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=18.. Was gonna try differnet media some verbatim worked well for me before just got expensive.

Hi djjayv05
1st edit out your serial # - it's at the top of the log and begins w/ 1A. Don't need some else using it.

Nero API version: 6.3.0.0
Update Nero to 6.6.0.18. Here's the links to use.
Package 1
Package 2 (recode, vision)

Recorder: < VOM-12E48X> Version: 1008
Looks like your drive was made by Artecand can use a firmware update. The latest is 100D.
Mad Dog has no support for this drive that I could find on their website.

CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
Probably not playing into this problem but best to have all drives in DMA mode. Here's a guide.

The Fuji you're using are made by Prodisc - okay but yes Verbatim is better. If your in the US Best Buy has 25 discs for 6.99 this week.

The disc starting playing weird more than likely cause the burn didn't finish and the disc wasn't finalized.

Give those a go and let us know.

You're welcome :)

Yep CloneDVD and AnyDVD are one of the best combos to backup DVD's - handles anything out there - good choice!

Download both packages and install both - has the updates for burning rom, express, recode, vision (which you can also use to convert your avi's) etc. Nero just has to broken down in packages.

Download and update the firmware for the drive too. You might need to use this link
instead. Pick 100D for model # VOM-12E48X

Keep us posted!

was just messing around with Nero and the encoding program built in. I see a few ways to encode it. I want the easyiest way to encode the AVI files so it doesnt take so long for them to encode when I usually just burn my own movie then it hours for it to encode. So which one do I choose when I wonna enocode a AVI file for Nero to burn to a dvd?

Hold up on the firmware update until artec site comes back up and you can get the instructions. Looks like this is a funky one and you might need to update by floppy thru dos.
Most drives are much easier to update.

You'll need to use Vision to convert the avi's. Here's another guide by alkohol for that.
Will take a bit to convert - the time also depends on your system specs too.

oh boy I did something with the firmware. There were three files like I said I click on the exe one cause that was the only one that was clickable. SO I dont know if I did something wrong or not.

But with the Nero vision I dont have that under my Nero menu this is what I have

You're probably ok on the firmware - the dos prompt came up waiting for you to something and that something never happened.
Hopefully their site will be up soon. The 1st link has instructions.

Use VisionExpress -that's what it's called in Nero 6 (sorry forgot about that). The guide is for 7 but 6 is very similar.

edit: typos

Was this an AVI conversion? They can have audio problems at times w/ some programs.
Check the disc and the movie in the pc and see if the sounds goes out of there also.

so is Nero visionexpress better to convert my AVI files? Also if I used DVD Shrink to burn a AVI file will it automaitcally convert it or do I have to before I use DVD Shrink? Which is better to burn my AVI files using visionexpress to convert then Nero to burn or using visionexpress to convert and DVD Shrink to burn if thats possiable?

Vision can be better - plus you have more options with it like creating menus.

DVD Shrink won't do avi's. They would already have to be converted to a dvd complaint format 1st.

But no need to really use Shrink to burn.
Vision will do it all - convert and burn.
Or if you used WinAVI to convert you can just use Nero Burning Rom or Express to burn the files - use the dvd-video option.

Yeah they do take awhile - pc specs have alot to do with it and keeping the pc clean helps too.
Just to give you some timelines:
With a 2.8 ghz processor & 1 gig of ram it takes about 1hr 20 mins approx.
Using a 1.8 ghz & 1 gig of ram takes 2hr 20 mins approx.

If you haven't recently do a disc defrag, run a registry cleaner like the free ccleaner. Use the issues and cleaner options.
And run virus & spyware scans.
Do this maintenance bit weekly.
