all fw flashes are just as safe as ever, and what version of 5.1 u flash with is going to depend on what type of media u plan on burning with. here is the readme notes:
FOr Xtreme 5.1A backup Read Speed is always same as original game disks 12x. Original discs unaffected
FOr Xtreme 5.1B backup Read Speed is always quiet/slow. Original discs unaffected.
FOr Xtreme 5.1C default backup Read Speed is same as original game disks 12x. When Original Game disk is booted, all subsequent backup loading will be at Quiet/Slow Read mode, Original Game disks are unaffected. Turn console off/on to reset back to Default backup read speed (12x). Quiet/Slow Read Speed is for quiet operation and/or cheap DVD+R DL media.
FOr Xtreme 5.1D default backup Read Speed is Quiet/Slow 2-4x. When Original Game disk is booted, all subsequent backup loading will be at Fast Read mode 12x, Original Game disks are unaffected. Turn console off/on to reset back to Default backup read speed for backups (2-4x).
I used X5.1C and man my dvd rom is smoking spinning fast! Does this affect the long term of my dvd rom's life? just little cautious that's all. Don't want to run super speed and dvd will only last 3 months compare to slower speed dvd will last for a while.
what media are u using? 5.1c is for using both cheap DVD+R DL and verbatim backups, if ur running cheap media u need to boot with a original game disk then switch to a backup. IF ur using Verbatim then u just boot with those.
