No single program will protect you from everything. Best to have several but only one real time scanner at any single time.

I run AVG Anti-Spyware once a week as well as Spybot - but as said not both together. I also have Spyware Blaster with AVG Anti-Virus set to run every day at 8am.

No DO NOT use Adaware. This is a garbage piece of software especially with other programs at the same time. look at what it did with on my other thread:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/444872

Essentially I have found a way to try and deal with this but am not sure if it will restore my computer back fully. This awful problem occurred becoz the stupid software conflicted with some other software which lead to corrupt data, and this is a quite a common problem btw, look here on official lavasoft forums:

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php...78&hl=lnk+virus

DO NOT TRUST THIS SOFTWARE, epecially after the official support techs of lavasoft didn't have the deceny to correct their own mistake two years after this problem started cropping up. Sorry for my rant but u would be annoyed if u had your whole computer practically unusuable because of a stupid piece of software!

Lot of conflicting info on the Ad-Aware site - problem seems to be with Ad-Watch which I haven't got. Been using Ad-Aware for years, don't know what to make of it. Safest seems to be to wait and see if more info surfaces and not use it. Thanks for the heads up...

yeah not much info searching the net on it coz it's not as common as other more well known virus'/problems, but it CAN happen but it is definetly due to a lavasoft product. God I wish I could swear on this site without being reported, that's how frustrated I am about this, lol!

Oh well time to move on, I have learnt my lesson with this, and hopefully more people should be aware, at least there is a way of rectifying it. I read some reports leading back 18months ago and a kid had to do a whole system restore, and delete everything off his computer, which really scared me, as it would mean that I'd lose all of my music I have obtained over the last two years, (all legally of course though, lol!) But luckily there has been a way to sort of remedy it, but be warned!

Is AVG really that good??? I use Norton Antivirus 2007 and it has spyware blocker worm blocker and a pretty good scanner. Should i download AVG anti-spyware to have better protection?

I used to run Norton but got fed up with it when it turned into nagware at renewal time. Also, after I did a system recovery once it decided I wasn't entitled to use it and switched off while online - so that was its chips.

Nowadays I use AVG and Firefox which seems to avoid a lot of nasties plus extensions such as Adblock & McAfee Site Adviser. All of which is free. Had no problems so far...

Hey i currently bought a program called NOADWARE and it real good. It solved ALL of my problems with spyware, adware, malware, ETC. It blocks dangerous files and doesnt let it harm your computer. ITS REAL GOOD I WOULD RECOMMEND IT.
