check for scratches on the umd

if the umd is fine its most likely the laser

It might be beacause you are playing a a lower fW ;which the umd itself might require a higher FW for it to work .

fw is firmware

Find out your firmware :

1. Press the HOME button located on the bottom left of the front of your PSP.
2. Select SETTINGS.
3. Select SYSTEM INFORMATION.
4. You should now see a screen showing several pieces of information about your PSP including MAC Address, Nickname and System Software version (aka Firmware).

my two idea's would be

1.scratches my few selection of umd games take forever to load due to scratches

2.are you trying to use no umd disabled on a custom firmware on the recovery this takes forever thanks
