I'm looking for the easiest cheap way to get my PS2 (V7 I believe) to play backup games without soldering and with the least chance of damaging anything.

i would say fliptop and Swap Magic
a little more expensive then the slide tool
but much easier and safer

But when modding a PS2 the cheapest way is not really
the best way to have a good system.
a good modchip installed is your best overall option.
