Hey everyone, im pretty confused here. Ive been givin my friends ps2(SCPH 50001) and i cant open the top to the lens, it has 2 screws but i cant remove it because the frame around the dvd drive is holding it in, how do I remove this? I seriously need to clean the lens and replace the top with my flip top replacement.

nevermind, ive maaged to open it and clean the lens but aparantley it didnt work.

Those kinds of PlayStation 2s are notorious for various laser problems due to the infamous LA chip in there. Chances are the laser is dead because:

a) the LA chip got damaged from overheating,

b) the laser's coils have burnt out from uneccesary excessive use,

or

c) the ribbon cable has melted(I know it can be damaged, but I heard that was the damage to the cable: melting) to the point where your LA chip AND the laser are completely useless.

You will probably need a new laser. Here's my tip, make sure everyone you know NEVER goes near an SCPH-50001 console.
