Hello Everyone,

Let me give you my system spec and then we'll dive into the issue.

Antec 180B Chassis
Biostar TForce 550 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
G.Skill 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950XTX
COOLMAX 500W PSU
WD Raptor 150GB 10K RPM

Now that we have that out of the way, on to the issue.

I just installed all of these parts, and then turned the power on. The system sounds as if it is booting up, all fans are on, led's lights up, HDD spins, etc. But, I am recieving no video to my monitor.

If I unplug the DVI cable from the tower then the monitor displays the normal "screensaver" display showing some RGB values. When I plug the DVI cable into the machine once it's on, the "screensaver" disappears and in a few moments the monitor goes into "energy safe" mode.

Here is what I've been able to cross out thus far.

-The monitor does work with both DVI and VGA cables. (tried on a different machine)
-The system does seem to be getting power. (500W should be enough for this setup, at least I believe it should be)
-I have also reseated every component just to make sure.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I seriously love this case.

Thank you in advance,
-Kazu

Assuming everything has the power it needs...500w should be adequate if it's a quality PSU.

But, since that board only has one PCI-E slot, it's not possible to test the vid card in a second slot. If you have another board that uses PCI-E, you could test the card on that.

Though new, your card may be defective. One thing you can try before submitting an RMA...is to pull the card and reseat it. Make sure the card is using it's own 6pin power line from the PSU..with no other devices attached to that line.

Edit: Going back thru your list, I see you might have the same PSU as I do...and it has a patch cord for the 6pin supply. I would suggest sending that back, and getting a certified SLI PSU..my recommendation would be from PC Power and Cooling.

Hi Morph,

I dropped this issue on two forums, and I'm combining your response with someone else's response. Which is to basically run to a local computer store and pick up a well known PSU that is 600W (just to make sure) and then see if everything runs well.

If all goes well, then I'll return my current PSU. If it still doesn't work then it's most likely the video card.

Thanks for the quick reply Morph!

Hi Morph,

I went over to CompUSA and picked up an Antec TruePower Trio 650watt, and plopped her into the rig and everything works perfectly. The other PSU must not have been pushing out enough juice or it was a damaged unit. Oh well, back to NewEgg with it.

Thank you for the advice!
