I have followed a tutorial given to me by a user on this site (Orthogonl). Here is the link:

http://www.exploitstation.com/articles/codebreaker_exploit.php

I am trying to get the Codebreaker Exploit to work but am having no luck. Okay, I have followed it perfectly. I have an original PSX Game, I'm using Apocalypse. It is a PAL Game. My console is also a PAL console.

I have the Codebreaker exploit file, I made my Title.DB file, I put in the extra .ELF's I wanted and saved it as a .CBS (Codebreaker gamesave). I then transferred it to my USB. I have a downloaded version of Codebreaker so before I started Codebreaker I had to boot up Swap Magic. Once I had loaded up Codebreaker, I copied the Exploit from my USB to my Memory Card. Then I reset my PS2 and entered in my original PSX game used in the exploit. At this point the Exploit is supposed to install, but nothing happened for me. The game began to load and started to show the beginning credits of the game. Now, I don't know what is wrong. I followed the guide properly. Could it be the fact that I do not have a store-bought version of Codebreaker? Can anybody help me please. Thanks. :)

All I can say is to recheck and make sure ALL the necessary files are in the .cbs.

Also you said your console was PAL? Open the .cbs file again and check the name (BADATA-SYSTEM). Is it BADATA or is it BEDATA. If it's BADATA it won't work as this is for NTSC consoles and all you have to do is change the A to E. If not then just recheck.

Open up the .cbs file with PS2 Save Builder and change this:

You can obviously boot in to the modded version right? Because you copied the first .cbs. So yea it should work again. Just reply back if there's anymore problems.

ight thanks man, i was just wondering whether the problem as to why my exploit wasn't working was because I do not have a retail version of Codebreaker. Now that you've told me a downloaded version of codebreaker does not affect the working of the exploit it should definitely work. Thanks and maddddddddd props lol =D

well, the exploit worked, I can load the exploit, i see the .elf files.. I have the following .elf files: SwapMagic3.8.elf and Zoneloader.elf however when i boot these they work but when i swap and put my DVD backup in it does not load. I tried both programs several times but they do not load my Backups, they just take me to the browser screen and I see a "black" disc and it says "enter", "back" and "CD tracks" (or something like that) but the disc I put in is a backup of my game.. can someone help me out :) thanks

Are you ejecting the tray when you insert your backup? If you're gonna load backups you need to let the ps2 know your not ejecting. Using either fliptop or that slide card tool to open your tray. Both make modifications to your PS2, but nothing explosive, harmful, dangerous etc...

This is just a suggestion and I'm not forcing it on you, but have you tried programs like HD Advance/Loader. That way you won't need to modify your ps2 (except for putting in a hard drive). You can also use it to load your programs off HDD instead of memory card. I mean apps not uLaunchELF or keylauncher or whatver booter you're using. But if that can't be a choice I think the slide card tool and fliptop are the only ways to boot your game. Good Luck!

lol maybe I didn't make it clear in my above post.. i do have a slide tool, lol I know that you have to slide, you can't eject. So yes, when swapping the discs I used the slide tool but when trying to boot the discs nothing appears on Swap Magic and Zoneloader.

also when booting the Swap Magic .ELF file it says Swap Magic Coder 3.8 DVD version.. then why do i need to do the TOC thing? I do the TOC refresh and put in my backup and i get a red border for a second then I get taken to the PS2 browser and then the PS2 comes up with the "not a valid PS2 disc" screen.. also after looking in my memory card, every time I try to boot the elfs from my memory card, i get blocks on my memory card which are called "corrupted data".. is there something wrong with my exploit?

I used the latest Indepedance Exploit version (like 4), since it does pretty much all the steps in one. I also did mine so it was saved as an .xps which then got uncompressed or something when I moved it over.

My other thought is the psx game you used, for some reason, doesnt like it or something. Maybe you should try using a different psx game for the exploit.

Actually, use the latest Independance to make the exploit and see if that works better. If it doesn't, i'll give you the instructions I was given and you can follow that.

Try using CogSwap http://orthogonl.byethost9.com/files/PS2/elf/COGSWAP.ELF (if you don't already have it, you can either copy it to your MC or execute it from an inserted USB storage device (using uLaunchELF)

In order to play a backup disc, do the following:

1) Run CogSwap Loader, by executing the ELF file
2) Hit the eject button
3) Insert an original PS2 game with a high TOC (check http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/182717 for a list of TOC sizes, general rule of thumb is that you want your original PS2 game to be larger than the backup you are swapping it with)
4) When the screen text changes, to ?PSX CD-ROM?, ?PS2 CD-ROM? or ?PS2 DVD-ROM?, depending on what you inserted, press X if you inserted a DVD and O if you inserted a CD.
5) After a few seconds, the screen will say 'Use cogswap'. Now use your homemade swap tool to release the tray and swap the disc. Remember to pull the pin back to place after. Then press X.

Nope, you can't play PS2 backups without first refreshing the TOC w/ an original PS2 game (when using MC exploit).

Think about it. First, you need the PSX disc to trigger the exploit allowing you to run homebrew software. Second, you need an original PS2 game to refresh the TOC (which a retail Swap Magic disc does for you) so afterwards you can insert a PS2 backup--without the console detecting that you swapped the discs.

props guys, I found out what the error was.. my DVD game had a small TOC. I was able to boot up Swap Magic 3.8 elf. However, I couldn't get Zoneloader.elf to work.. it would boot up and then it would say "Swap CDs/DVDs Now".. so I would use the slide tool and put in my backup DVD and press X and then nothing would happen..

props Nyder & Orthogonl :)

Glad to see you've got everything working now :D

You can buy an old, used game like GTA:VC for $10 or less, if you're in need of a game w/ a large TOC (http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps2-1-1-swap-chat/official-ps2-dvd-toc-list-60.html)

NOTE: Occasionally games will not work with one loader, so you must try using others such as CDLoader or Swap Magic. The swapping procedures outlined above are exactly the same when using these other loaders. Sometimes you may find games will not load with any loader, should that happen I would try rebuilding the .ISO with Gnie's ExPERT v1.05. You will also need to convert any DVD9 (dual-layer) games to DVD5 (standard DVD capacity), look for search for RipKits for the specified game at ps3news.com and/or check out alkohol's guide on rebuilding DVD9 games to DVD5 (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/5/275350)

yeah thanks :) I got the Swap Magic elf working and have Zoneloader on disc so if I need to use Zoneloader I can boot it off a DVD. This Memory card exploit is just a backup as my Swap Magic DVD has quite a few cracks and will soon break if it isn't taken care of so I just wanted to know how to do this. Thanks guys =D

I've had good luck using The Official Playstation Magazine disks. Not all disks, as some aren't full, but most the time they are.

But I found that some games would boot under cdloader and not cogswap, and vice versa. the Original disk I use for cdloader doesn't work for cogswap, so I have a different one for that (that doesn't work with cdloader, go figure). Sometimes it's trial & error.

I did try the Playstation Demo discs but had no luck..so I went through my PSX games and I found a perfect PSX game to run the exploit with, and I read somewhere that PSX games made before 1998 are gauranteed to work and it is true. The game I have (Apocalypse) works perfectly and boots up the exploit and from there I load up my Swap Magic Elf. My Swap Magic DVD disc looks like it is going to snap and stopped loading now, it loads one in every 10 tries so I thought I would give the exploit a try and to my amazement it worked!!

BIG Thanks guys! :D

I meant to use the Playstation 2 demo disks for the original ps2 disk you need when you do the swap stuff (unless you have an official swap magic disk)

psx doesn't matter, as long as it's not a weird one or something.

Yep, I tried the PS2 demo discs as well, the one that come with the PS2 with a starter pack. I had no luck with that and so I started to use my PSX games and they worked perfectly. I still have one more question, I have the Zoneloader.elf on my Exploit and when I load it up it works perfectly, but what do I do next? Do I eject the tray and put in an Original PS2 Game with High TOC or do I just slide and swap and put in my backup Game? Thanks. :)

Man, dang, you aren't reading what I am saying. I am not talking about when you turn your ps2 on what disks is in, because it has to be a psx to trigger the exploit. I am talking about when you use cogswap or cdloader, you need to have an original PS2 disk get recgonised before you swap it for the backup. I am saying I find that the demo disks usually have a decent ToC to use.

Why do I even try? Sure, I like to help people, but if they can't take the time to slow down and read what you are saying, why even bother?

Sorry man, I misunderstood you. I use GTA 3 for my TOC disc as it is 4.37GB in size. I tried PS2 demo discs but they didn't work, but looking at them now I know why.. they are severely damaged.. lol.. do you know how to use Zoneloader.elf? I boot up the elf but then am I supposed to insert an original PS2 game with a High TOC? It doesn't say anything about refreshing the TOC on the screen, all it says is "Swap CDs/DVDs Now"..

BTW, I am reading what you are saying, I just misunderstood. Sorry for wasting your time. :(
