No, it's cool. I had just got up and I think I will make sure I'm awake for a few hours before I post. I seem to wake up pretty grouchy.
I usually have more patience then that.

Lol I'm just learning about SM and CS(CogSwap). I've never made a slide tool or modified my ps2 in a way. I never knew what or why toc was involved for until now. I also figured out for CS to press O for CD and I knew X was for, but for both too. Silly me, I never read instructions :)

Anyway I found God Of War lying around and was wondering, since it is DVD9 will it work if I want to use it with loading DVD5s. Or do I have to use DVD9 with DVD9 and 5 with 5. If my modchip should ever break, wear down, or simply not want to work I need a different boot method. Thanks to orthogonl for the info.

rvinkebob, you need to rebuild the DVD9 image into a DVD5 image, look around this forum you will find a topic on how to rebuild DVD9 games. :)

Anybody got any ideas on how to use Zoneloader.elf?

orthogonl,

I always pressed O for the original DVD game and X to boot the backup game, and it always worked. Also, when you say "if you inserted a CD", you mean a PS2 silver-bottomed CD, right? Cuz you can't use the exploit to boot PS1 CDs.

nixz,

I assume that you would still have to put in an original PS2 game with a high TOC before you can boot your backup. Have you tried with and without inserting an original game? I have ZoneLoader so I suppose I can test it too...

Yeah I booted up the Zoneloader.ELF, I pressed eject, entered my original High TOC game, let it load then when I went for the swap I noticed the disc was still spinning, but I still managed to take it out, I put my backup DVD in the ps2, used the slide tool to slide back and then pressed X and nothing happened..

Just incase anybody's confused, I'm talking about the Zoneloader.ELF you can boot via the memory card, not the Zoneloader DVD. :)

Doesn't the ZoneLoader.elf file supposed to do the same thing as the CD/DVD version? If there is a difference, is that the reason why I can boot CD/DVD Loader on disc but not its .elf file?

You realize there are PS2 games on CD-ROM right? While roughly 80% of all PlayStation 2 games have been released on DVDs (distinguishable by their silver bottoms), over 150 older or smaller games have been released on CD-ROM and are easily distinguishable by a dark blue bottom. And of course, PSX games have a black bottom.

Also, it is indeed possible to load PSX backups (albeit it doesn't seem to work 100% of the time, neither does Breaker Pro):

Using uLaunchELF:
Turn Disc Control On under settings
Hit SELECT for the configuration screen
Choose a button to assign
Choose MISC/
Choose PS2 Browser
Return to main screen
Swap the discs using swap method (slide card/flip-top)
Select the button you assigned & the PS2 will restart to the browser screen, hit X to load the game

orthogonl,

Oops...yes, I know there are PS2 games that are CDRoms, like Tetris and Tekken Tag Tournament. I was meant to say "a PS2 blue-bottomed CD", not "silver-bottomed" because of course, the silver-bottomed ones are DVDs. My mistake...

I didn't know that you can boot PSX backups with uLaunchElf! I've got the Action Replay V2 disc with PSX codes on it and have been using that to boot, but I shall try the method you mentioned. Just a couple of questions though:

1. Does it matter what version of uLaunchElf I'm using? Cuz I think not all versions have the Disc Control setting?

2. Does the trigger PSX disc need to have a big TOC?

Thanks

nixz,

The same thing happened to me when I ran the ZoneLoader.elf from my USB flash drive --> my backup game did not boot. I haven't tried using the disc version of ZoneLoader yet. Have you?

I finally got CDLoader.elf to boot from my USB flash drive (from orthogonl's site) after trying like 8 or 9 different versions...*phew*

So what is your procedure with using the ZoneLoader DVD? How is that different to using the .elf file?

well I put in my Pressed Swap Magic v2.0 DVD disc, let that load up, use the slide tool to open the disc tray, put in my Zoneloader DVD, boot it up, then I use the slide tool to open the disc tray again and place in my copied game, slide the tray back and press X and it works.. I tried this for the Zoneloader.elf but nothing happened.

So you use Swap Magic 2.0 to boot up ZoneLoader.elf from the memory card, and neither "swapping for your backup game right away" nor "inserting a big TOC original game and then swapping for your backup game" worked? Hmm...

I boot mine through my USB flash drive using the Independence Exploit and so far, no luck either...Maybe it only works if you boot it from a disc?

what the heck?

To boot up my Zoneloader.elf I do the following:

Insert my original PSX game.
Let it boot up to the Exploit Menu,
Go to the exploit folder
Boot up Zoneloader.elf

:)

When I was talking about using Swap Magic 2.0 DVD, that was when I boot the Zoneloader DVD (Not The Elf!!!! lol) :) Hope that helps

Right-e-o...Gotcha now, lol.

When you use your Swap Magic 2.0 DVD to boot up your ZoneLoader DVD and then your game, does the ZoneLoader disc actually stop spinning?

I'm figuring the reason why ZoneLoader.elf doesn't boot up our games is because of the way we use to boot it. It needs to be booted from a big TOC disc first since we can't refresh the TOC once it has booted up. Can your Swap Magic 2.0 DVD boot .elf programs from the memory card? I know that version 3.8 Coder can.

I tried your method but unfortunately I just get a black screen. Maybe I need a bigger TOC trigger disc?

My Zoneloader DVD does stop spinning, this is when I swap and put my backup DVD in..

My Swap Magic V2.0 DVD cannot boot .elf files, I used the Memory Card exploit to do this, I have the Swap Magic 3.8 elf on my memory card exploit, I boot that up and then do a TOC refresh and then insert my DVD backup.

Yeah, I tried to force-swap it (ie. pull the tray out while this disc was still spinning) and that didn't work either. You definitely need to have a big TOC disc in there before you boot up ZoneLoader because you can't refresh TOC once it has loaded up. That's why using the DVD version worked for you because you have just booted up the Swap Magic 2.0 disc before it.

So umm...try this: Use your Memory Card Exploit and run the Swap Magic 3.8 elf. Do a TOC refresh. Now, instead of swapping for your backup game, choose SMBoot and load up the ZoneLoader.elf...then, swap for your backup game.

Have you tried CD/DVDLoader instead?
