My question is simple, is it possible to burn the swap disk file in front of a PS2 game back-up on the same CD or DVD so there would be no need to swap disk? If not is there any way to burn a PS2 game with out the need of a swap disk or modchip? I would like to know what makes the PS2 disk so special they can't be duplicated completely, one source said the burners available will not burn as close to the center of the disk as the factory has placed them not sure if that is true but I would like to know.

Real factory-pressed PS2 discs contain a small data code that identifies it as an original disc and not a copy. Consumer level CD/DVD burners cannot reproduce this code. This is why the PS2 refuses to simply load up backup discs be default. It's a fairly effective copy protection measure. The PS2 knows when the eject button is pressed. And whenever you use the eject button to load a new disc into the drive, the PS2 scans for this special code. If however, you could change discs without pressing the eject button, the PS2 will simply assume that it still contains a real, store-bought disc, and will happily execute any program on it.

Thanks for the reply, it's just hard to think that no one can place some type of code on a CD or DVD that would work, So the information I got may be true that there is a small area very close to the center of the CD/DVD that common burners can write to so there for the code can't be placed into the proper area for boot, but if a factory that makes DVD burners could re gear the burner so the laser would burn into this are and the proper media was available it could work, So do you think that is the case or does Sony have a code that a burner can't write because it's not a 0 or 1 but rather a series of numbers or lines? is there any microscopic views of this so called secret code area available for viewing online? maybe the code could be burned in with the lightscribe if it was text or lines, just seems there has to be a way other than swap disk and modchip.

Another way to do it may be to have a small strip of DVD media with the proper code that sticks onto the proper are on a DVD with a game back-up but the method used to place it would need to be exact but the idea of a stick on boot code sounds good I think the Chinese could do it.
