mp3 Ringtones via MicroSD Card for Sprint Razr

Hey all, I'm totally new around here. I've been reading a bunch of posts regarding uploading ringtones to the Razr, and most of them discuss how-to's for those who connect their Razrs to the computer via a cable. I want to try a different approach because I'm really reluctant to download mobile phone softwares.

My Sprint Razr v3m has a microsd card that can hold files such as mp3s. I inserted the microsd card into my laptop (via the adapter provided) and was able to load mp3 files onto the microsd card. When I inserted the card into my phone, I was able to access the loaded mp3 files via the music application. What I wanted to do was use some of the files as ringtones. I edited some songs down to 30 seconds to be able to use them as ringtones. I totally expected the ringtone selector to be able to recognize the microsd card as a source, but it didn't. It doesn't make sense. If the phone can recognize the card as a source of image files, why can't it recognize the card as a source of audio files? I don't know if there really isn't a way or there is and I just don't know how to access it. Does anybody know? I ended up sending the files via the internet, and I don't want to do that again because my bill killed me last month. Any help would be much appreciated.
