Slim Ps2 Online Gaming Problem...

I recntly bought a slim ps2 and Tony Hawk American Wasteland, I wanted to play it online and yes you can because it has an online play section... Anyway, I put in the online getting started disk filled out some stuff and tested the connection, it said it connected succesfully and I saved it.
Then I put in the THAW game and went to online play. I went to my saved online settings then I clicked play online and it said error...
I don't understand can anyone help me?
