What's the best path to upgrade to 3.03?

I have a factory version 2.60 PSP. I know this may be a noob question but I tried looking around for an answer and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Would it be safer for me to downgrade to a 1.50 and then to 3.03 OE, or to upgrade to a 2.71 and then to 3.03 OE?
At least with the 2.60 I can downgrade to 1.50 and if 3.03 doesn't take I'll still have a 1.50, but if I upgrade to 2.71 and then 3.03 doesn't take, then I'm stuck with a 2.71 which would be much harder t downgrade. Any input on the topic would be appreciated. (This is my first post too, so I'm sorry if didn't follow some sort of etiquette too.)

to get 3.03 OE you have to downgrade it to 1.5. 2.71 can't go 3.03, only 2.71 SE-C can.

oh. Thanks for the info. Since you've been so helpful, do you know if I can downgrade a factory 2.60 to a 1.5? I've heard a number of arguments both ways. Some say you can't do it with factory. Also, I know you can use DevHook to play ISO's off a version 1.71 but am I right in saying this only works with a TA-082? I have a TA-081.

im not sure about the factory firmware. But, upgrade to 2.71 then use this downgrader. However, it says it is TA-O82 downgrder. I not sure ...
