the other day i downloaded 2 naughty images of beyonce. It turns out that it wasnt naughty images just a jpg file with a name of something not allowed to be posted on this forum. Anyway i cant seem to be able to delete these files. And when i try to delete them nothing happens. When i right click the file the only options are 'preview' (which when i preview it says no preview available) 'edit' 'print' 'open with..- and 'send to'. These files are hidden from every programme as well. For example when i try opening it through paint it says the name is invalid. How can i delete these files please help i dont want this on my laptop especially as it is a shared laptop.

Are you sure the IMAGES had a .jpg file extention and not a .exe?
Are you running any kind of antivirus/spyware etc?

http://www.filehippo.com/

Here's a link for some free stuff just in case.

Cheers.

Onya has the right idea. Right click and hit properties, what does it say including full name including spaces Example "somepic.jpg.exe" or "somepic.exe" or "somepic jpg .exe"
Did you try to delete in safe mode?
You might have given your self a rootkit and these files are not regestered in the API. Going to need a whole lot more detail.
Try delete in safe mode first.

You say when trying to delete nothing happens? No error message at all?

@bkf, Just curious, why would being in safe mode make a possible difference when deleting certain files? Thanks for the praise too :)

Cheers.

Very often yes it can because in safe mode many processes and drivers are not started or active.

I don't know did I make a mistake. While not a rule here at AD it was written when a person ask's a question that person should stay around and help others. I been doing it from my first question that was answered. But I like to help, expect to get a slap if im wrong (only way I would learn) And read and research as many virus logs as I can fit in a day. It's always been my nature and my way and im glad I found a home whatever the future may bring. Least it gives me time to read and research alot. :-)

No mistake made my friend, not even in the slightest. It seems that we share similar philosophies.

Then this calls for you to install AVG free and run it. Also a HjT run posting the log file. Also a download and full system scan with AVG anti-spyware Then maybe a rook kit program to see what process is keeping those files locked. I also found a program for niobis when he was helping somebody else with a simalar problem. Ill look it up and post the link. There are plenty of file killer programs out there so keep the chin up. Not having antivirus and anti-spyware I bet you loaded with bad stuff. We will see what you have and what you need with the HjT log which is what I think IMHO you should do first. This stuff is all free. A little information about you computer system would also be good including motherboard.
