ok...I've backed up 9 of my games so far with schtrom 3.1 and I have had no problems at all. I have the sh-d162c, and it has worked beautifully. I just backed up my version of Legos 2, and I try to back up prey, and it get's to where it would extract the ss.bin, and it gives me this:
No valid iso on Disc! -
it doesnt work on 3.0 stealth or 2.0
and
"Function:MyExtractSecuritySector
Sub Function: MySendCDB
Return Code:2
The semaphore timeout period has expired"
Can't extract ss.bin
I have the kreon f/w, it's an original game, I selected the correct drive as well as in the settings.
Is this just a bad original? or am i missing something? I play the game just fine so far.
Any help or experience is greatly appreciated,

Just backed up my original copy of Prey and it worked without any issues. I used schtrom 3.1.
Why don't you use xbox backup creator? then use ssMerger to merge ss.bin

xbc gave the same runaround...I think it might be the disk. This is why it pays to back them up as soon as you get them ;) The disc appears ok though. I'll try pokin around with xbc again and see what happens. Otherwise, I gotta go rent the damn thing! :-/

ok do this:
1. open xbox backup creator, click tools and then click on unlock disc button. the file size should be bigger now
2. click read button and start reading the disc
3. you can extract the ss.bin in here too
if this doesn't work, then we ca use dvdpro. download a free version of it and let us know if you have issue with xobx backup creator.

...I tried unlocking the drive, and i get the same result. Although now, it wont backup my lego disc or prey. I can extract the pfi and dmi sectors just fine. Nothing else though. I wonder if it's the drive already...that would be Xtremely lame. I just reflashed the drive and rebooted. But I get the same thing. Nothing. I'm so tired of hearing "oh nooo". :-/
I can't think of anything i could've have done or changed to screw anything up. Like i said, I just backed up lego2, now that won't even work!

ok, whe you use xbox backup creator, did you read from current position or complete?

tried it...same thing. I have to believe that something is wrong with the drive all of a sudden. That's really lame.

ok...here's what has happened. The SH-D162C has the Kreon V0.81 firmware. My 360, which is irrelevant at this stage, has xtreme 4.2. Havent got around to 5.2 yet.
I have apparently fixed the problem. I'm not sure if the laser was just misaligned or what...But, I removed the drive from my PC, took it apart, and slid the laser back and forth a few times. I did this, because it just wasn't reading the discs correctly. I left the laser away from the center when I put it back together, knowing that it has to come back to the middle to start reading the disc. Also hoping that this will realign the laser with the rest of the planets, stars, and itself. I guess it did, and prey is now 15%. Before it wouldn't get past 3%. So yeah...woohoo!!!!

well, it seemed to work on both schtrom and xbc. But it was really slow. Almost took an hour for prey with schtrom. Was only ripping at like 1.7 with xbc, but was working. I rebooted, and now it's doing the same thing. F. This is making me mad.

why don't you update your xtreme firmware to 5.2?
I am running 5.2 without any issues backing up prey.

I had this problem with Table Tennis. The disc had a bad scuff mark, and gave me the same error you got.

Are you saying you can't create a blank xtreme 2.0 image?
That's what I had to do with Table Tennis, then extract the video.iso file from another game, extract TT's pfi.bin, and dmi.bin files, and inject them all into the blank xtreme 2.0 image, and the backup works great. Original did too, just couldn't back it up without the extra steps.

I think my Samsung SH-D162c is already toasted somehow. I've only backed up 10 games prior to it acting up. Now, when i eject a disk, it comes out, but it wont go back in when i push the button, or push it. I have to F around with it to find a time when it's not trying to eject and it allows me to shove it back in. Using Nero cd-dvd speed, it tops out at about 1.77 too. I already ordered another one, but if there's something i could do to fix it, that would be great. Any ideas?

Edit*: in terms of drive speed...when i use XBC it reads at about 20-30, then at about 3.5%, in the log area it says "Setting SH-D162C error mode to 0x00" and then the drive doesnt go past 1.7 ...wtf? I have got the backups its made to work, but it's just not working right. It should only take about 15 min on my computer...now it takes about an hour, and that's when it finally decides to let me back something up.
