I would say attach the HD to PC, copy them over.

Isn't a PS2 hard drive formatted to FAT32?

I cannot tell you from personal experience...but from what I have read, it's not possible. If you are using an official sony PS2 hard drive, it cannot be recognized by a pc. To play mp3's off it, you will need a regular hard drive. This doesn't make sense to me because the PS2 hard drive has 40GB minimum I believe, so why would they do that?? I would reccomend using a standard IDE hard drive in your ps2...it cannot do FF from what i've read, but you will have the features you're interested in.

yea my hd is'nt an official sony hd. a guy from another forum said it can be be done with a thumb drive but I dont have one and dont plan on it. I can dump them off of an mp3 cd so I guess I'll just get a cd-rw
does'nt seem to be a program around that does this straight from the pc

If it isn't an official sony HD, then it should be readable by a PC. Did you have to format the drive to use it with PS2?

I see....then I would agree with what you said earlier about dumping from CDRW. Also, try a DVDRW, holds much more but I'm not sure if all PS2's read DVDRW. Sorry I couldn't be of help, and thanks for teaching me about the formatting by the chip.

PS2 uses its own partition file system (PFS) similar to linux but still different.
You need to create a Partition using DMS Format Tool, which should be in your Toxic apps as well. Then connect your PS2 HDD to your PC, and try to find a program called PS2 PFSexplorer was a very good project at one stage but the devs kinda just disappeared. It can probably be found over at http://www.sksapps.com. Its in German-Portuguese so if you need any help for translations i can help there. PFSexplorer will be able to copy files to your partition that you created with DMS format tool.
EDIT: Afterdawns URL tags dont work.
