if you can run a wire from the router to the xbox, it should establish the settings automactically

you need a wireless gaming adapter which will run about $100
for a good one. Then you can connect wirelessly just like your laptop once you set it all up.

not that i know of. I have heard of things like gaming adapters
like access points. But i can tell you 100% that a wireless gaming adapter and a wireless router will work. Especially if they are like mine and are the same brand. Mine are both from Linksys

Yes, you can use a wireless router instead of a wireless gaming adapter, but you have to have one that can do wireless bridging (bridging the ethernet and wireless).

Check this out to see if you understand what's going on:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge

If you do, fine. You may net even need a WRT54G because some routers have wireless bridging. I've been able to have both my xobx and PC access other PC's on the network and internet using a wireless router linked to the router which is attached to my cable modem. I have not tried System Link or XBL.

If you don't understand the tutorial above, get a wireless gaming adapter. It will save you a lot of hair pulling. I've seen them go for $40-$50 on sale every now and then.
