Do i need to switch to mode a?

with a samsung drive you need to use the enable 0800 disc. if you check the package your extreme firmware came in you will something to do with a 0800 iso file, just burn it to dual layer media. now insert disc into 360 drive, wait about 5-10 secs, remove the disc, turn on pc, windows should recognize it, need any more help just ask

@washburnt
you need to modified the mktflash using the hex editor.
first you need to click on start and select run.
then type msinfo32.exe and then go into the components => storage => SCSI and see the hex for your sata.
last read the sticky here on how to use hex editor to replace what you get in the msinfo32.exe. sticky => http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/384753
that should work.
also, you will need to use the 0800 disc before updating. don't leave the 0800 disc in more than 6 seconds. I had this issue before drove me crazy. Just turn on xbox 360 and count to 10 secs, then insert this 0800 and count to 5 secs and eject it.
cheers

98sohc, I followed your steps and modsters timing with the discs, but my pc still doesn't want to detect the drive. another guy already flashed this drive, so should i do the MTKFLASH.exe trick or avoid it since it's already flashed?

i'm lost now. hehe
so yo have a flashed xbox samsung drive with Xtreme 4.2 or lower right?
Now, you want to update it to Xtreme 5.2 right?
OK if so then:
do a msinfo32.exe => go into components => storage => Scsi
now copy that info on the right and paste it here so we can see it.
After that I will post more instructions. baby steps ok! We will get you up and running the updated firmware!
cheers

umm do you know what extreme version your drive is flashed with?? because if the 0800 disc is not working then your extreme must be older than 3.0??

I don't know which version it was flashed with. The guy that did the work on the 360 won't tell me anything. All I know is that it must be flashed because it plays my backups.
I burned the 0800 enable file to a DVD+R DL disc using ImgBurn. Anything wrong with that? Should I try leaving the disc in the xbox longer than 5 sec?
Should I try re-flashing the drive with an earlier version.

I have a VIA 6421L and my MTKFLASH needed to be hexedited to work with. Then I had a do a couple of tricks after that as well to get it to work. With firmware that old there's not need for the 800 disc.

The SATA cable is plugged directly into the SATA on the MOBO. Do I need drivers for the SATA?

if your firmware is older than 3.0 then you are going have to flash with the 0800 firmware, the 0800 disc is useless, but before i would do that i would just flash it with a newer firmware(newest one is 5.2)but i would say you have to flash with that i would reccomend at least 4.2. because then your 0800 disc will work with the firmware and no need to reflash all the time you know what i mean? if you need any files or anything just pm me your email. i will be glad to help as much as i can. and also do you know exactly the version of your sammy drive?
