as far as i know it will only play .wmv files
it wont play .avi

youd have to convert them to .wmv but youd lose quality then
i dont think its worth all the hassle of converting to only watch through the 360

but im hopeing someone will find a way to play .avi
thats the only major think lacking for me on the console

I have converted many DVD's to WMV and haven't noticed any loss of quality. I'm not saying you don't lose quality when converting but nothing I can notice.

Depends on the CPU and the length of the movie. Takes me anywhere from 6 to 10 hours. I use TMPGExpress and it has a batch utility to convert a string of files without additional user input after starting.

HaHa...don't think so. Not when you have young children that leave the discs out to get scratched beyond repair, or friends borrow them and never return! Whats inconvienent about having your whole movie collection stored electronically on your computer. I have 2 360's which can stream the same movie or 2 different movies to different rooms of the house...now that is convienent!

Let me rephrase my question...what does your opinion have to do with this topic?

Because thats what a forum is people discuss stuff. But if you like to convert movies thats cool cause I'm sure it is real nice to just hit the wireless remote and watch a movie. But I can't so its all good.
