finally got it to work, thanks for letting me know about the umd.one more thing though,my sons are quite young and i noticed that when you put in a umd it gives the option to update to version 2.81 ,now i have told them not to push it,but (1)is there a way to not show the update option and (2)if they did press it by accident does it update straight away or does it ask if you are sure you want to do this.???or is there a better way around this.?

if they push it it wont upgrade as the fw version is 3.03 and it will say there is no need to upgrade

i've tried it too. i have a umd with version 2.8 on it and when i hit the update button it comes up with a message telling me i have 3.03 and there is no need to update. in your case unless you've upgraded further since your first post it'll say you have 3.02 and no need to upgrade.
