might not be best place to ask but I fig I give it a shot

I have a friends psp been tryign to get it to read umds for while now
replaced drive with known good drive still same issue
placed umd drive in another psp works great

I say wierd is that even closing the door you get a disc read error it doesnt even try to read the umd before giveng the error most of the time

once in great while it will read and load up what ever game or movie i have in at the time it decides to work

Im thinking its the umd controler on the mb but I was wondering if anyone else had similar issue as this?????

If so how did you fix

he doesnt really have money for a new mb

What firmware does it have? You should try reinstalling the firmware if possible, or if you have the official(sony's firmware) firmware installed, update. BTW, you spelled the word "weird" like my name which is "wierd"(the "I" and the "E" are reversed).

as far as the firmware the dip upgraded it to 2.82 minutes before I walked in his door shrugs was a 2.71

either case cant downgrade it and do not wish to upgrade it anyfurther as 2.80 can be downgraded now hope to see a 2.82 sooner or later

You said something about swapping the UMD drive. Why dont you try swapping the MOBO or flash? That is, if you can.

I put the UMD into another PSP worked fine
I know it?s something with MB was hoping someone might now what lol
if it is the UMD controller I?m kind of screwed
if it?s something I can go in and replace cool a flaky resister or something

starting to really hate this PSP told him other night I was going to throw it out the window lol

either case I have fixed a few wither with replacement parts and or fuse replacements etc this one messing with me lol

not to good at diagnosing anything on board level is reason I have 4 donkey kong boards sitting in corner not fully working lol

either case if anyone can help or anyone here do board repairs reasonably I have a dead backup board and this one both could use some care
