Hi all:

Any advice on what utility I can use to compress the file to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD? Thanks!

Hi.

Do you mean you have a single AVI file greater than 4GB in size or do you mean you converted an AVI file to be DVD compliant and the resulting files are larger than will fit on a DVD5?

An AVI file per se cannot be compressed. It can be reduced in size by lowering the bitrate.

If you have DVD files generated by an AVI conversion, DVD Shrink (free) or Nero Recode (free trial) can be used to compress to fit.

http://www.nero.com (Recode is part of the Nero suite of programs)

Well it says it's a Windows Movie and exceeds 700MB. Nero Suite says it's too big to fit on one disc.

If you have an AVI file and you want to convert it to a compliant DVD then I would use ConvertXtoDVD below is a how to guide for the program...

Hi.

I'm still not sure exactly what's going on. The file might be too big to fit on some CDs but it will certainly fit on a DVD. Did you use NeroVision Express to convert it to a DVD, thus making it larger? Did the file you downloaded have a bin extension along with a cue file?
