I think my problem is, I thought I could just dump the files onto a MicroSD disk, drop it into the M3 and be ready to go. Obviously, in my ignorance, it doesn't work that way.

another question I do have: You do point out that some files require DLDI patching, but according to this guide, not all do and by patching a files that doesn't need it, it can ruin it. How do I know the difference?

Also, do I just copy over the patched file and that's it? I really want this to work (since I also dumped $60 int this) and I'm sorry if I am a bit annoying, but everything that's been has been thorough and concise. Thanks again for your help and patience.

OK, so I did the DLDI thing, and now I get this message:

You are not using a card compatible with Chishm's FAT library.
Please run this program using a GBAMP or other compatible cards!

Firmware
Latest Firmware is 'v1.04 Final'
The firmware files are what are needed by the M3 to work, these are what come on the CD, but chances are they are out dated, so throw the CD away and download the latest firmware files from http://www.kiwiclx.com/nds/ . Once downloaded extract the files anywhere in your hard drive. You need to find the folder called ?system Vx.xx LL? where X is the firmware revision and L the language, open this folder and copy the entire contents to the root of your MicroSD card.

Maybe someone can help me. Recently got M3 DS simply, 1gb micro card + card reader etc.
Following this guide but each time i go to Multimedia, it displays an error message on lower screen, asks to check a few things, Card is full / if Moonshl file is there and other stuff. It only flashes for a second so hard to make out it all, so then it moves onto the GUI - Moonshell is now on lower screen, and DIR on upper. Files - ebook/roms/_DS_Menu.dat / .sys / _DS_mshl.nds ... cannot seme to be able to load a game. It displays the games i DL'd in ROMS folder but cant play them.

I loaded as above the _system_ file but there were only 4 folders there including 1 hidden - ebook/Cheat/GBAFrame/Thumbs ... is this all i need? I seen other Guides they mention SHELL folder- but i do not see it. the Firmware i dl'd also had other files in it other than the _system_ called moonshl/_DS_menu/ _DS_MSHL.nds ... do i need to do anything with these?

Do i need to do a Setup.exe on moonshell or is it done when i move the files across?
Firmware 1.4 is what i have also, 1.03 was on the disk with the M3 with Moonshell 1.5 so does it matter which i have?

All help appreciated.

The error message displayed when loading Moonshell is normal, just ignore it.

It sounds like your trying to load a game within Moonshell, which you cannot do, you load games by going to the Game icon in the M3 menu.

The 'SHELL' folder is now called 'moonshl' in newer firmwares

You copy over all the files found in the download on Kiwiclx.com, that download is replacked to make it easier to use, however it does mean my guide is slightly incorrect as there is no 'System vx.xx ll' as the contents of that folder is all in the root of the archive. You have obviously done this otherwise you wouldn't of been able to load the M3 menu.

ok, i can load the M3 and view the menu for it. Games/Multimedia/Boot slot 2 ... if i go to Games, i have Roms/Ebook directory but both are empty? I have my downloaded roms in the Micro card in that folder but not showing up. Then if i go to Multimedia, i can see the Roms there and their sizes etc.

So i guess i am missing something as far as loading the ROms or maybe wrong folder or something? Should i be able to view them in the games folder and play from there?

Cheers.

Please let me know if anyone has tried this, but what if someone put the M3 Simply firmware on a card plugged into a Datel Games N Music? Would that allow the Games n Music to act like an M3 Simply?

i also got m3ds simply recently. it's pretty nice device/firmware to play roms. i was wondering, if its possible. like swap magic 3.8 coder, aside from playing homebrew/ntsc and PAL version of ps2 games. also can input cheat codes from armax/gshark/expoder/codebreaker codes.

are there any available add-ons apps like cheat codes app (e.g. Action Replay DS codes, etc.) for m3's?
I'm not sure but i heard that the R4 has released a new firmware with added cheat code features.

Update to the latest firmware (v1.04 final) highlight the game and press 'Y' to load the cheat interface.

Here comes another noob question...

I've been reading a lot of the replies to this thread carefully and am interested in GBA support. From what I understand, as long as I have an M3 Simply plugged into slot 1 of my DS, all I need is an M3 Perfect Lite (with no Passcard, since the Simply acts as a Passcard) plugged into slot 2 and I should be good to go, right?

Is there anything else I should be aware of before purchasing both of these devices? Is there a better alternative out there? I prefer something that doesn't stick out of the console.

Also, is there a way to play original black and white Gameboy games on here, or would I need to use some sort of emulator?

Thanks guys!

A few things to mention
To run GBA games you don't actually need a pass device at all, however the Simply can still be used in conjunction with the M3 Lite as a pass device should you wish to run NDS code from the M3 Lite.

Ensure that you get the Perfect version of the M3 Lite, not the Professional as this does not support all that many GBA games.

Original gameboy games will work via emulation, currently your better off using the emulators for GBA mode than the NDS mode emulators.

Another device you may want to look into for GBA is the EZFlash 3-1, this is alot cheaper than the M3 Lite, but it does not work on it's own, it will require you to have a slot-1 device (e.g. the Simply) to load the GBA game onto it. You may want to do some research into this.

I think it is 'Y' keep pressing it until your back at 100. I'm not 100% sure as my DS is currently being used by my girlfriend, but it is something similar to that.

Is it easy to change the black m3 shell with the white shell? If so can somebody give a brief explanation of how to do it?

I did a bit of looking around but havn't found a thread explaining how to do so.
