Can anyone microphone work with my GE Easy cam?

I bought a GE Easycam last week but I didn't know that it doesn't have a microphone built in.When I tried to record sounds the user manual said that a microphone will work with the webcam.I bought one a few days ago it didn't work,I bought a mvox speakerphone and it's not working.Can anyone tell me what microphone can work with my webcam because people at radioshack and other stores have told me that any microphone can work.
