I downloaded some movies in AVI format and I burned using sonic but I have to set the quality a little low so it can fit on a disk. Can anyone recomend a better way to burn AVI to dvd with good quality?

TMPGEnc xpress 3 or 4 are what i use, you can turn down the quality so that it only takes 3 hours to encode and is still perfectly fine in terms of quality, or you can turn all the filters all the way up and let it take 10 hours and have a flawless conversion.

vso ConvertXtoDVD seems to be pretty popular too. stupid easy, basicly one click from XviD to burned dvd. it only takes an hour and produces good results, but you cant adjust ANYTHING about the video, you cant even join videos together if they come in two disks. you have to join them beforehand with VirtualDub.

i think virtualdubMOD is pretty sweet too and its free, although increadibly dificult to learn how to use without someone next to you who knows what they are doing or reading through scores of pages of help files.

If you have Nero 7, you can use Nero Recode to do it.
Nice results too.
If you are interested, do a search on this site for a well written guide on how to do it.

Good luck

ConvertX to DVD latest version , will do the work for you. It converts any movie file into VOB (DVD) even from PAL to NTSC, and it does put part videos toghter for you if you look under options...The quality is great but keep in mind for a 4.5Gb DVD you don't want to fit movies that are way longer than 2 HRS - because the quality becomes a problem.

Nero Recode does not handle AVIs.

You cannot use multiple segments to create one title set. They have to be merged first.
