Here is my sinario,

I own a slim ps2 with a flip top cover along with the 3.6 Swap magic discs
I can and have used the swap magic discs to launch misc elfs (ps2menu, pgen, snesstation, hd advance, etc.) from an ipod. I am familiar with much of the use.
My laser is crapping out on me and the swap magic isnt fully satisfying me. I want a non usb hdd. I know about the slim case adapter thing that cost $70 and anybody knows anyone to cheep to actually buy a game doesnt want to but anything else plus i would like to avoid doing that extensive of modding. (semi open to ideas of mod chips but no expirience in soldering.) And let me know of the cheepest slim hdd case anyone has found.
http://www.hdcombo.com/cgi-bin/hdcombo/site.pl

I also have my self one of those fatties. You know the ones that could fit the hdd in them before. The laser is burt out on that. I know about the memory card exploit and i am able to get a copy onto my memory card but if i am not mistaking you need to trigger it by running a psx disc in which i am incapable of doing due to the lack of red laser from my fat ps2.

So in the long run to wrap it up, i need a way to launch one or any elf to lauch the hdadvance.

Is there a way to trigger the exploit without laser
Is there a modchip to lauch a boot.elf or anything (cheepest no solder that works) Link please :)
or a cheeper way to hdd my slimline
Or any other way to do so

Is the slim hdd case actually my best bet?
