Okay, i plan to update to Xtreme 5.2a firmware from a stock xbox 360 using 360fwtoolbox_20 & xtremebootmaker.0.3.6 There are many tutorials around and it is getting very confusing (there are many methods, no?)
In Windows Sytem>Device Manager...i cant see any kind of SATA Controller installed...so i cant proceed with using Xtremebootmaker as it wants me to select a SATA controller. Intel wont let me install its RAID drivers until i have some sort of sata hard drive connected. All my hard drives are IDE.
I'd be appreciated if you guys could help me out

you dont have your xbox on when you make your firmware and you dont turn it on until you boot to dos, once in dos assuming your using xtreme 5.2 you will type "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" and your chipset will come up turn the xbox off and once its off press the number for your chipset wait 10 seconds and turn it back on, it should IMMEDIATELY start reading your firmware, once its done turn the xbox off and restart the computer, once you restart go to your dos thing again and turn the xbox on, type "x360sam orig.bin X.bin hacked.bin" substituting your firmware name with X and it should read your original and then read your xtreme firmware and then make a hacked.bin for you to use if it does then your doing it right, once thats done you can just type "mtkflash w /m hacked.bin" and and your chipset list will come up again, turn the xbox off and then pick the number and wait 10 seconds, after 10 seconds turn the xbox back on and it should start to read the firmware and flash it, it will take about a minute to flash, once its done turn the xbox and the computer off and pop in a burned game to make sure it all works!

the thing is, i cant create a xtremebootmaker floppy/USB coz when i tick custom...there isnt a ICH5R SATA controller to pick from the list...theres only primary/secondary IDE and Ultra ATA 133

when i downloaded Intel® Chipset Identification Utility, it fails to detect my chipset lol
ICH5 is southbridge, im meant to be finding the drivers for that arent i? which means it has to be from intel site and not the ASUS one...

nope you need the SATA drivers for your motherboard, not your chipset drivers from intel

something like this?
From the Asus P4P800 driver/bios site...theres a BIOS upgrade that does this:
"Update Intel RAID BIOS to V3.5.0.3003."
"Add item to control SATA delay time"

I just modded my ms28 successfully on the first attempt, and I needed to get a VIA VT6421A chipset Serial ATA RAID PCI Controller Card to use to read/write the firm ware. My motherboard has an onboard ICH7 chipset but I read over and over again that this chipset isn?t compatible with ms28. Make sure you don?t need the VIA VT6421A chipset like everyone else has??..unless some recent developments were made that I am not aware of.
PM me if you want me to send you the link for the tutorial I used.

i have intel 82801gb/gr/gh(ICH7 family) serial ata controller 27co
i tried almost everything. last tutorial i used was the textbook 360 xbox firmware and nothing..i cant patch ms28. i made the disk with xtreme boot maker i restarted my pc and power the xbox without the sata cable connected. when i was at dos prompt i plugged the sata cable to the xbox i typed the samreax xxxxxx xxxxx command and i
pressed enter and before i chose the port i switched off the xbox.
then i selected the port, i counted to ten and then i switched the
xbox on as the tutor said. but nothing happend it should have read the firmware at this point..any ideas?

For flashing I used this guide word for word. The ms28 section starts on page 25. http://www.360mods.net/tutorial/Samsungv41.pdf
As I said in my previous post here, most likely you are going to need a compatible sata card to read ms28 FW. The one I used is VIA VT6421A IDE & Serial ATA RAID PCI Controller Card (I have read the VT6421L's work to). There is another method make this card not needed but you have to do some desoldering and cutting (VCC Method).
