i have a 60inch projector tv HD in 1080i is it worth buying the hd addon? will i see a drifference because in games i dont see that much in 1080i but in my friends i see a huge difference in 720p

the HD-DVD drive is only for HD-DVDs you don't use it to play your games! If you want it for HD-DVDs I would say no! I feel that HD-DVD is the next BetaMax! I feel that Blu-ray kicks HD-DVDs ass! The question! NO it is not worth it!

i'd say,it depends on how rich your are.see either format could win,or they could both stay in place for a while,so if you wanna take a gamble get HD-DVD add-on,but personally i'd go and buy they LG HD-DVD/BLU-RAY combo player,it comes out in a couple of weeks,now it's $1100,but it seems worth it if you must absolutely have one now...so to round that off,you could get the add-on,but u might get dissapointed,or you can wait till either format wins,which might take a while,so if you have teh cash,get lg combo player... :)

i would say dont buy it. 200 bucks for a player that you would need an xbox 360 for is too much. the xbox 360 shouldve of just came with a HD-DVD player like the ps3 has a blu ray which is way better. dont waste your money.

i dont know about that whole list there Dom.....the adult business did decide to go with HD-DVD from what ive read on here. so that could greatly boost the HD sales.....just my two cents here.

I doubt it, I can't even see a difference watch a HD-DVD in 1080p at best buy! I can see a difference watching a Blu-ray movie though!

I'm currently studying film studies, and the thing which determined the Betamax/Vhs battle, was which one had more major studios behind it. The five major studios being Paramount, Universal, FOX, MGM, and Warner Bros. At the moment each format has 3 behind it, so it will probably be decided on which format Paramount choose to support(they currently support both).

I feel that Blu-ray has it because they have 20th Fox and HD-DVD dosen't, they aslo have MGM behind them! Another thing loook at how many makers of Blu-ray make the players compaired to HD-DVD!

ok i am so tired of the fanboys flaming this or that. here is the truth about HD-DVD and blu ray. as of right now eventhough this company or that company is in this camp or that camp right now most of them are producing in both formats. not all but most. now as for which one is better..... when something is said to be 1080i 720p 1080p 480p 540p... whatever the number is, is a set spec that has to be followed and it pertaning to the pixal count. so 1080i is 1080i no matter what! now on to which is better 1080i 720p 1080p if and i mean if you sit real close and have a tv bigger than 65 inches you will see a slight improvement from p to i and that is only because of the fact that i means interlaced which shows small black lines in the picture.at normal viewing distance the HUMAN EYE CANNOT SEE THEM! proven fact!
now then on to size differnace. have you ever heard "its not the size of the ship, but the motion of the ocean!"? well its true here as well. yes it is a fact that bluray has bigger storage size but it is also a fact that bluray uses ancient video encoding MPEG-2 which has long been surpased. HD-DVD uses newer more robust video encoding which as far fewer artifacts in the picture and takes up alot less room on the disc. that is why most peoples OPINION that really takes video viewing to the exstreame right now prefer HD-DVD for the picture quality and the sound quality. wait what was that did i say sound quality? yes thats right sound right now HD-DVD is packing better sound and more sound options right out of the box than bluray because they have more room on the disc thanks to their better video encoding. so to answer the orginal posts question. right now just to watch movies on and you dont have $1100 but want true 1080i or 1080p or 720p or whatever then for $200 if you want it then you have a choice, and go buy the add on. oh and one last thing the porn industry is now publishing in HD-DVD only right now. and HD-DVD has sold alot more true players (not players pretending to be gamesystems) and has out sold week to week bluray in movie sales

I have tladaga Nights in both Blu-ray and DVD, and I qued them up at the same time and I swiched between the 2 players on the same TV and I saw a diference, Blu-ray was alot brighter...

No,even after reading that,i'd have to say that certain people's opinions don't really affect the fact that either format could win...it's far from over,and as consumers you have a difficult choice to make.if i had it my way,there would only be one format,but that's not gonna happen,so i'd just get the combo player so to get teh best of both worlds.think about it,if you go an buy a HD-DVD add on,you'll never get to see casino royale in 1080p HD,and vica versa...so i say,either get the combo player,or wait a couple of years till a format wins.unless your rich and have money to blow.Then you should just go and buy everything.LOL...

domreis alot could have depended on the input type. is your bluray player/ps3 hooked up the exact same way as your hddvd player?
on the same inputs in your tv? the reason that im asking is because most
all new tvs have custom color set ups for each input. it will not matter if one is hooked hdmi and one is component as long as they are set up the same way in your tv

I don't have a HD-DVD player, I have a DVD player, and PS3 that I use for Blu-ray, I have a Infocus in 76 Projector and they are now both going into my Yamaha Reciver via HDMI, then out to my 1 HDMI port on my In 76. I don't think the reciver would affect the Color Settings!

Note: I swaped the HDMI in on the PS3 and DVD player and the result was the same! I wasn't noteing I can see a diference between HD-DVD and Blu-ray!
