Nero Recode 2 and AnyDVD 6.1.1.4 worked like a charm for me backing up Open Season.

Is there a guide for using Nero Recode or is it just click and copy?

@BSeechoma
Almost click & copy. If you use Shrink - very similar. Nero just doesn't do copy protected movies alone - so you'll either need to rip with DVD Fab Decrypter or RipIt4Me 1st or have AnyDVD running in the background.

Here's 'mini' guide from some screen shots I had. In the 2nd pick showing a file saved to the hard drive but if you were using AnyDVD too then you can just pick the video_ts folder listed under the drive the disc is in.

Got CloneDVD to get a copy of it, this was a pain in the BUtt!

Had no success with my usual applications.

dvd fab
shrink
anydvd
decryptor.

CloneDVD finally got it to work.

You gotta love technology. :)

Interesting, since I used DVDFab Decrypter Platinum on Open Season and had no problem at all with the rip. The only real problem that came up was that after running the rip through DVDRemake Pro - removing the logos, FBI nags, extraneous material in the Bonus Section, etc - at the end of the movie it simply stopped rather than looping back to the main menu. Took me a couple of minutes to figure out the correct command to insert at the beginning of the Post Commands for the last chapter of the main PGC. But once I figured that out, the movie operated just as I wanted it to, looping back to the main menu at the end of the running of the final credits.

Now I'm wondering why you had trouble doing the rip using DVDFab Decrypter Platinum. Is it possible you don't have the latest version of the program?

Yeah it probably is - update it to the latest - 6.1.3.3.
Though that version won't work if using it w/ Shrink on these newer Sony's.

If that's that case use - RipIt4Me.
All free and handles all new stuff.

I'll go along with binkie on that. AnyDVD no longer works well with Shrink for the heavier copy protections included with some of the newer movies. Here's a simple guide from bbmayo that includes the software, covers the installation with an all in one installer and goes over the how to for a backup. It's all freeware using one of the most powerful decryption systems available. If you happen to open a DVD with light encryption that Shrink can handle alone, there's a skip to Shrink option.
bbmayo's RI4M guide:
http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/TheGuides/pacman777guide.pdf
I recommend this one because the revised version of Shrink supports burning with ImgBurn instead of the older DVD Decrypter burner ware supported by the original Shrink 3.2.

Hi, I had the same problem as most people do with open season, but i can't find ripit4me or fixVTS anywhere.

It appears as if the websites were dead or something.

Any help guys?

thanks

found them hahaha thanks anyway... this is the best forum for dvd info, hands down.

The program isn't off the web yet. The home website did get shut down though and Digital Digest and some others pulled the downloads. Softpedia was still listing the program last I checked. Seems the program has become more famous after being shut down than while it was still supported.

PacMan777-
RipIt4Me was a US site, and because of the laws about ripping movies being so strict in the US, the site was forced to close down. Most of the US sites including one of them where I am a mod have had to hide our ripping forums from view.

We hope that this changes in time, but for the time being there can be no discussions on how to rip a movie in a US forum. If we have a member that does not know how to rip, then we PM them to tell them how it is done.

I use RipIt4Me from time to time, but not being able to get any future updates, at least for the time being, is a little disappointing. However, I have several other programs that I can put to good use!

It's just been a while coming. In 98 Clinton signed the DMCA in accordance with the 96 WIPO treaties. 321 was the test case and since then anything that can bypass digital encryption is illegal in the US. Prosecutions have taken place in the EU as well as the US and other countries involving digital copyright. I see the need to protect copyrights, but not when it infringes on a users fair use rights.
